She used to be on my top three list, but I was never disillusioned into her “dressing herself”. She had/has a stylist.

All this will do is turn many of her devoted fans into prissy missies, thinking that we all are supposed to grow out of punk. Screw that.
Punk isn’t something you’re supposed to outgrow, which Avril is suggesting that it is. Maybe you might change your look or whatever, but all of a sudden becoming Mrs. Red Carpet Diva, just proves once again that she was never punk at all.
Getting dressed up prim and proper, when you’re punk, is something you do when it’s really only necessary. For example, at a wedding, I’ll wear a tux or for a new job, I may wear a suit if it’s required. This is in respect to those hosting the wedding or the fact that I know the new boss judges people on their appearance, but if they said “dress how you’d like”, you can bet your ass I wouldn’t dress in a tux or a suit.
Avril might be doable, but she’s definitely not punk. True punk died in the 80s and mostly what’s left is what the original punks considered poser-punk.

To a 17 year old girl, “being A punk” is probably the same thing as “being punk”.
She never was a sellout nor a fake. She simply chose and image, called it a name that many people of the previous generation related with something else entirely, and ran with it. She is pretty phenomenal when it comes to musicianship, lyric writing, and maintaining a ’star’ presence for someone that started out at the age that she was… She deserves props for that.
P.S. – If you are old enough to notice the incongruities between what Avril considers “punk”, and what the Ramones considered punk, you’re too fucking old to care about what comes out of Avril’s mouth when she’s not singing. Sit back and either enjoy her music or not. It’s beyond idiotic to hate or even criticize her for successfully creating an image, no matter what she calls it.
