Not that nobody already knew but…

This comment (posted to one of many Lazytown related posts) caught my eye. Just thought i’d repost it here. It’s funny because it’s true!

You can join the military at seventeen with parental signature, get a gun, go shoot people’s heads off or get yours shot off, but you have to wait 4 more years to drink a beer?!

You can touch a girl 24 hours before she turns 18, and your a child molester because she’s not mature enough to consent, but she can commit an unrealized crime at 11 and be considered and tried as an adult?

How about the boy second grader that kissed a girl student on the cheek and was suspended for sexual harrassment? How about last week in the news where a 19 year old “man” legally married his 15 girlfriend in one U.S. state, and crossed over to another for a job offer where the age of consent is 17, and was arrest for child rape, now has to register as a sex offender and has a court order not to see his wife? And the poor guy can’t even wallow away his tears over a cold beer for another 2 1/2 years.

This is one I always get a kick from. Two people see a picture of a young woman, like Julianna. One thinks she’s beautiful and “hot” and wouldn’t mind going out with her. Another see’s the same picture as nasty, dirty sexual soft porn and calls the other a pedophile. So who really sexualized the picture and is the pervert?

You puritans are the true sic perverts, over sexualizing everything, bible thumping cross burning and throwing stones, then going home to jack in the dark or taking it in from behind which is about as perverted as it gets. I’d rather date an honest pedophile than some lying bible thumping righteous pervert that steals my panties and jerks off on the toilet.

  1. I can totally understand protective parents. I wouldn’t want some dude dating my 14 year-old daughter someday either.

But the people calling ‘pedophile’ need to get a grip. The first foreign war in US history was essentially precipitated by a hot 12 year-old Italian girl that was kidnapped by the Barbary Coast Pirates. That’s the age when women began to get married then.

Morals are absolute, and they don’t change with time. So were our Puritan and Christian forefathers perverts and pedophiles for marrying young women? No, they weren’t.

There’s nothing you can do about finding a maturing girl attractive. It’s thousands or millions of instinct. It doesn’t mean it’s the best idea to act on it, but it doesn’t make you sick either.

And the people crying ‘pedophile’ are usually the ones most defensive because they think 5-year olds are hot and are scanning Girly Galore Boutique pics for nip slips or some crap. Give it a rest.

  4. Most people I’ve seen who go out of their way to desexualize youth are themselves fat, old, and victims of time and gravity. They buy into the old wisdom of living longer and think they can direct other people by operating off the mistakes that have lead up to their own morbid existences.

Bottom line is youth looks better. Less fat (ideally), no wrinkles, nothing sagging, and no bullshit knowit all attitude.

Best example: Brooke Shields in The Blue Lagoon = hot. Brooke Shields in anything else = clownface.
    hot

    not

  5. I can only imagine the hell I would have raised if I could legally get alcohol at 18 instead of 21

  6. I have a deep hatred of beer and people who love it, but I agree with so much of this.

  7. #1 – 12 is stretching it. Especially considering that around the time of the barbary wars puberty started much later than it does now.

But I definitely agree that people never really stop wanting to have sex with girls of a certain age. Its simply easier to accept that they cant have sex with them anymore if you make it into a moral issue. Then its only your morals keeping you from having sex with them (rather than the fact that they dont want to), and you’re able to demonize those who actually are.

  8. Man, that is so true. I”m sick of everyone telling me (a girl) that I’m sick because I wouldn’t mind boinking a few certain actors who happen to be under 18. It’s ridiculous.

  10. You can (pre) sign up for the US military, but you won’t actually go to basic training until you are 18. Then, on base, (after basic graduation,) you can drink. Some.

If your marriage was legal in the state where you married, “full faith and credit” generally applies. Don’t try anything dodgy, though.

I can look at anyone in public. I can date any underage girl. But inappropriate touching could be criminal, and rightly so.

  12. #7 I know what you mean, but that makes it all the more ironic. From all reports girls today mature more quickly, who knows how much more, but at least not slower. So how would the moral value of that kind of attraction grow worse and worse over time?

On the 12 issue, it’s from a historical novel called “The Pirate Coast” by Richard Zacks or Robert, something like that. Could be wrong but I doubt by much. And in any historical account of those times those kinds of things are standard it seems like.

For me I’m just not attracted to girls that look very young, I just get tired of the complete intellectual dishonesty behind calling a lot of guys perverts. It’s just instinct, doesn’t mean people have to act, but pretending to be blind is irritating.

  14. #10 – actually, you can ship to boot camp while still 17. I had two recruits in my platoon who were 17 when we picked up at Parris Island. Granted, they both turned 18 during boot camp, but still, they had pemission from their parents to go, so they went.

And also, no, if you are under the age of 21, you are NOT allowed to drink, whether you’re military or not or on-base or not. If someone under 21 drinks on a military base, it’s not because they are allowed to, it’s because someone else hooked them up.

  15. Thats what I like about living in Holland; I think they took things more into consideration then in the states. Drinking “light” alcohol such as beer and wine is legal at the age of 16, but you can’t start driving till you’re 18. Gives you time to adapt to alcohol and all before getting behind the wheel. Instead of driving at 16 and at 21 boozing it up and causing more traffic accidents cause you can’t handle the alcohol and you can’t be responsible with drinking.
Age of consent is 16, which is seems like alright, its human urge especially as teenagers to go around and have sex. Max age difference is 5 years I think when the other is 16, and from 18 onwards it doesn’t matter, but not sure about that one. But either way, it is not really frowned upon if a 19 year old has a girlfriend who’s 4 years younger. At least, I haven’t noticed it all in my surroundings and with myself. I’ve been in a relationship with a girl who was 7 years younger and it was no problem for anybody. I just think that in America there is a greater paranoia about these things, and everybody who even looks at a younger girl/boy is considered a possible child molester and pedophile. Things also tend to be more dramatized there for no reason, all out of proportion. And there is no logic in certain things/laws like mentioned in the article.

  16. It is not at all ironic that people married girls at younger ages in past years and don’t any more.

Using historical beliefs centuries old to justify a current way of life would be like:

    – using slavery to justify calling black people niggers and giving them less respect as a result.

    – going back to public executions and hangings for wrongdoers.

    – using leeches to try and cure medical ailments and throwing away modern drugs.

    – deciding women shouldn’t be voting or entering the work force.

    Silly? Perhaps. The point?

PEOPLE DOING SOMETHING IN THE PAST DO NOT JUSTIFY IT IN THE PRESENT.

    Things have changed.

    1) Families do not marry their children off (in modern world) to accrue wealth, resources, or power.

    2) We no longer live in a patriarchal world. Women have different roles in society. Those roles are no longer limited to having babies and raising them, and include school, education, and work.

    3) People understand that physical maturity does not equal mental maturity. People further understand that healthy sexual activity requires a certain level of mental maturity to take place.

    4) People realize early sexuality at the hands of someone older can do tremendous psychological damage.

The laws in the US that were developed over the past years were each enacted by different people from different states bowing to different pressures. Of course they’re not going to add up. Of course it’s stupid that you can buy a gun before you can drink. Yes, it’s arbitrary. Does that mean the laws are pointless? No. Imperfect or not, they are there for a reason.

In the most obvious cases where you don’t skirt the border years, the reasons are absolute and pretty difficult to debate with any sanity or comprehension of reality. 13 year olds should not drink alcohol. 13 year olds should not buy guns. 13 year olds should not have sex with 30 year old men. The laws work just fine and without debate on this level.

What the first reply said was probably most valid. There is nothing wrong with finding a girl who is under 18 attractive, all by itself. The year by itself is just a number.

But don’t try and act all noble as if sexual attraction to little flat-chested kids is totally normal and appropriate because some guy married a girl that age 250 years ago to get more land (or because he himself was a pedophile).

One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Pedophilia (except as fodder for jokes and parody – ie. NAMBLA episode of South Park; Justin’s posts PRE-LazyTown) has no positive place in the modern world.

  17. just 100 years ago in USA and Canada AVERAGE age of girl’s marriage was 13. Average! not lowest! and well now tell me its so long ago.

another thing – in japan age of consent is 13. in netherlands age of consent is 11. Poland 15. France 15. All of north Europe is below 15. OGM its about 300 Million Pedophiles and they are not 3rd world countries! and lets add 2,5 billion for china (14) and India (14).

ad now which law is actually odd – worldwiede or puritan american sexist sick law?
