Elisha Cuthbert is controversial

There’s a story breaking this week about billboards for the movie Captivity (which I’ve never heard of before this) having to be pulled down all over L.A. because of public outrage over the depictions of a woman (Elisha) being kidnapped, tortured and killed. Here’s a photo of the ad in question…

And the trailer…

A few things… This movie looks pretty crappy. Anyone else notice how bad some of the lines delivered in the trailer were? And how fake Elisha’s screaming sounded? Is this dog really getting a major theatrical release? Because it looks like something I’d expect to head straight to DVD. And it’s El-EEE-sha, not El-EYE-sha? Hmm…at least I learned something from all this.

Someone from one of the studios involved had this to say:

“This movie is certainly a horror movie and it’s about abduction, but it’s also about female empowerment. We reshot the ending so the main character ends up in as much of a positive situation as the situation could allow. There is no rape or nudity in it, though it should be an R-rated movie.”

No nudity? Lose.

Looks like I still need to rent The Quiet.

  1. I find her annoying and unappealing to look at. So this idea of binding torturing and killing her is appealing to me! 😛

  2. so the movie is about someone who is kidnapped, tortured and killed?

Eh, why bother seeing it then? You know she dies in the end!

That’s like the tag line for Sixth Sense being “A boy sees dead people. Including his psychiatrist.”

  3. The Quiet is pretty bad, although she’s sexy as hell in it. The problem is you end up almost understanding why her Dad would have sex with her.

Cuthbert is great, especially pressed against glass. Also I think 2nd or 3rd season of 24, she spends half the season in a tight tank top.

  4. Christ, this is dumb. Who’s captured her, Dr. Evil? “I’m just going to place her in a series of easily escapable scenarios and assume everything went to plan, what?”

What came first, the torture porn horror fad, or Abu Ghraib? I’m willing to bet the latter informed the former. Lot of twisted fucks out there – by which I mean, the American public.

  5. WTF!?!?!
Twice the same scream? … Are they running out of screams or what?
No nudity? Then, how am I suppoused to ‘black-snake-moan’her?
And… let’s be realistic, Elisha is a really bad actress. If it where not because she acted with a more talented actors in 24, and in the other stuff she has done (not counting with the pre-teenagers movie “girl next door” wich is shit) she could be dying in a dark street begging for some rotten tomatoe to eat.
And what’s the deal with that freaky chin she has? Is she an admirer of Mr. Incredible, or Jim Carrey in the ending of “my, myself and irene”?????
Shame on her!!! SHAME ON HER!!!!
    …but her boobs save her.

  8. “There is no rape or nudity in it”

Then why would anyone want to see this piece of shit.

    Elisha is a dirty girl.

  9. el-eesh-a needs to understand that her tits are the star, nobody gives a rats-ass about her as a person. Consequently any movie NOT featuring her naked is a de facto waste of time.

  10. She’s got a man-face too.

  11. No rape or nudity? I might as well kidnap, torture, and kill myself to a copy of House of Wax. She does play a fine sassy pornstar tho. She should stick to what she knows.

  15. ‘From the Acclaimed Guy that Did the Catering for Silence of the Lambs and the Girl that Proofread the First Drafts to Goodfellas and Casino…’

Sigh, that’s never a good sign for a movie. Elisha Cuthbert: hot, hot, hot body but the face is starting to look like a Jack-O-Lantern around mid November.

  16. ^^^

many a pumpkin has felt my loving touch around mid-November. I don’t see any reason why I would leave out Elisha.

  17. Waitaminit… anybody who thinks she ain’t fine is just plain nuts, or maybe a closet homo. She just needs to wake up and realize we aren’t going to pay to see her tits when she’s 40 (a’la Meg Ryan), so if she wants the tit-money she better get em out -now-.

  18. In the immortal words of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Giles..”Oh good lord”.. Why? Why can’t Elisha Cuthbert pick a good film to do ? She was good in House of Wax, but considering she’s able to out act a wooden Paris Hilton, that’s not saying much.. nice tits, def. hot, but other than another glovrified wank doll, there’s very little point to her..

    #18 | Comment by garth — March 21, 2007 @ 8:29 pm

  19. ^^^

I’ve got a jug of windshield washer fluid in my garage that can out-act Paris Hilton.

  20. No nudity? Damn it, what the fuck is wrong with her? She’s past the point of doing nude free movies and still being able to get work. I really can’t understand the point of being that hot and not showing it off. A little bit of teasing is fine, but if all you do is dress and act sexy, but never actually show the goods…just pisses people off. I firmly believe that it is a DUTY of all hot actresses to do at least one very well, decent length nude scene. That’s why you’re hot, dumbasses, so you can display all of the beauty of nature. Otherwise it’s just so much frustratingly wasted potential. Might as well drive around in a Ferarri with a car cover on it! …With windshield holes cut out, of course. Elisha = stupid cocktease who’s career will likely fade to black shortly.

  21. Oh…
and people need to lighten the fuck up about these billboards. You see more graphic images than that on Nip/Tuck commercials. People need to quit being so damn offended by everything and stop attacking 1st Ammendment rights (and also 2nd Ammendment rights, by the way).

    #21 | Comment by Pyronuc — March 22, 2007 @ 7:35 am

  22. why the fuck would you think it is pronounced el-eye-shuh. you moron.

btw that movei looks pretty crappy.

    oh, i don’t know…MAYBE BECAUSE THERE’S AN I THERE??

how do you pronounce this name? –> Eliza
    or this one? –> Elijah

    i rest my case. dumbass.

  24. Okay u guys just to tell u that is not the real trailer. I made that trailer… i used clips from the real trailer so if you think the way they delivered the lines was stupid… that is just because i made it like that. so don’t blame the director and the people who make the trailers.

    #24 | Comment by Nick — March 23, 2007 @ 6:28 pm

  25. But there’s an I in Elizabeth and you don’t pronounce it El – eye – zabeth! 😛

  27. Oh, BTW, the 1st Amendment only protects citizens from government action. If I tell you to STFU, I am not violating your civil liberties, unless I am the government, which I am not, because if I was, things would be much different. And how anyone sees a 2nd Amendment (Well-regulated militia/right to bear arms) issue in this is beyond me. Twitx2.

  28. #24 – i made my comments based on a 5-minute trailer that was subsequently pulled from youtube. i’m pretty sure it was the authorized trailer, but i’m not certain…
