I need some help. Oh, great site, BTW. Anyway, I just bought a DVD of Get Over It (I’m sure you’re familiar with the movie), and I have a small problem. I seem to…how do I put this…not own a DVD player. So I was wondering if you have any suggestions about a good one to buy that doesn’t cost $4210. Thanks.

You have Get Over It on DVD? You bastard!

Okay. Why did you even buy a DVD… when you don’t even have a DVD player?? It’s like… buying screws when you don’t have a screwdriver! It’s like… buying a bra when you don’t even have breasts! It’s like… buying a tampon when you don’t have tampon insertion points!

Unless you count your asshole as an ‘insertion point’.

You get the idea.

Anyway, i would suggest you get a Sharp DV-620 (because that’s the model i have). It’s a pretty reliable machine. Good sound, good picture. Has all the extra functions that you would want for a basic DVD player (Zoom, Slow Mo etc etc) and it’s cheap too. I bought mine in Singapore for just around 340 Singapore bucks .

And that is FUCKING cheap for a DVD player. It’s probably even MORE cheaper in the states. If you can find that particular model of course.

It’s not exactly the Pioneer or Denon of DVD players, but if you’re looking for a good, cheap reliable DVD player, you can’t go wrong with the Sharp DV-620. I think they’ve introduced newer and better models by now though. I got mine last December. So yeah, just… look around. But for me, personally, i’m happy with what i have right now.

Or you could just get a PS2… that doubles as a DVD player as well.

Which brings me to this next e-mail:

hi i was reading through your site and i noticed that your really big into games and dvds. i was just wondering because i have a PS2 and when ever i plug it into the telly out in the living room, it works fine. But when i plug it into the Tv in my room, the picture is all black and white. i bought my PS2 when i was in the US. it works fine outside but not in my room. whats wrong? oh and i’m also interested in getting some porno dvds and i was wondering if you would know wheres a good place to get them online? by the way, you have a lot of dreamcast games!

cheers

Okay, look. I’m assuming that you live in the UK. And since you bought your PS2 in the States, you must have one that’s NTSC. And the reason it won’t play in color on the TV that’s in your room is probably because your TV’s PAL. They’re not compatible you see. The TV out in the living room’s probably MULTISYSTEM. So that’s why it works fine outside.

What you need my friend, is a MULTISYSTEM ‘telly’ in your room. Or one that’s at least compatible with the NTSC standard. Your telly’s probably older than your grand dad. Get a new TV so you won’t have to play in black and white.

Besides, if you’re gonna watch any porn on your PS2 in your room, you’re gonna need all those differents shades of pink to do them skin flicks any justice.

  2. Thanks, man. I knew I could rely on you since you’re such an expert on the subject. Okay then…I’m off to buy a bra and some tampons.

  3. Why in the world would you want DVD advice from Justin? Experience owning one DVD Player wouldn’t make him anywhere close to an expert. Pioneer top end? Give me a break. Since he’s qualified, I guess I am too. Get a Toshiba SD-3109 because I own one. Seriously, please seek out a better source like Audio Review!

But the dude asking Justin about Porno movies had the right guy. For some reason he doesn’t brag about his vast porno collection. Just all of his DVDs and pirated PSX and DC games.

  6. There could be a cheaper/simpler solution for Kevin a.k.a Banana’s so called "problem". Go get DVD ROM drive, in this way, it’s far by most the cheapest solution. Install that dang DVD ROM drive into his PC, n maybe software like PowerDVD which shouldn’t be hard to find. Voila…. he can watch DVD without worries(unless he owns a lousy system n small sized monitor eg. 14")

  9. I have a Toshiba SD-3109 DVD player and it works fine on all my DVD’s and rental one’s, that is until now. I tried to watch a couple of different copies of "Jeepers Creepers" and my player will not play it past a certain point…just after the screen shows "this movie has been modified to fit your screen, blah, blah", it freezes. Why will it not play this DVD? Has anyone else had this problem?
