You know, i think those of us in the US are probably gonna get a slightly censored version (or at least, slightly different version) of the Star Wars trilogy boxset when it finally comes out this September.

Check it out:

The above comparison features the French DVD trailer on the top, and the US domestic version on the bottom. Both have the same runtime; the comparison illustrates subtle changes made to the new Special Edition version of the film - so subtle, in fact, you will likely have to go frame by frame to catch them.

Did I miss something with that first link? Besides the frames not being lined up (sloppy sloppy, folks), I saw no difference. What am I missing? I went frame by frame, I didn't see a thing.
Second link came out a while back, I always thought that was a bit bizarre. Fake lasers and explosions too graphic? Come on, you MPAA wimps...

go through the first link frame by frame. actually, you might even miss them even if you did go frame by frame. but trust me, there are a few weird edits in there. there's a princess leia scene that's totally changed around, a few missing laser blasts and weird 'blinding flashes' that in effect, censor what's going on in the scene.

hm actually. i shouldn't say that the US boxset will be censored. it's already censored because they're using the special editions in the set. and those cuts were made back in 1997 i think.

the french and US boxsets just have subtle edits. in fact, i think they censored more of that snow monster thing in the french version than in the US version.

Either way, like the stupid Lucas fan that I am, I will buy it, and love it. And I will buy THX-1138 when the re-master comes out in September. One of my favorite movies...

It actually took me a bit to see the difference in the last one. But if you move the bar slowly you see the difference. That is actually pretty intresting. I didnt know they made is so you didnt see the lazer hit the guy.

I'd reccommend getting Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for either the PC or the X-box. One of the most fun RPGs I've ever played. Star Wars Battlefront is going to be cool too (I want to pilot a speederbike!)

those differences are so minor only Star Wars geeks will know the difference.

The bigger problem is the fact Lucas is using the "Special Edition" edits of all the films. Luckily is still have the laserdiscs of the originals. Yes, count me among the geekdom.
