Faggots are actually quite nice in a rich gravy with chips (that's English chips as opposed to crisps, which you call chips). They're not exactly a delicacy though, more a solid working mans food. Us Brits are of course well aware of the more recent American definition - glad you find it so amusing.

Just to show it works both ways, we still laugh heartily whenever anyone refers to the film (sorry, movie) Free Willy, and of course in England the word 'fanny' refers to the far ruder "front-bottom" so any Yank coming over here and referring to their fanny-pack would have everybody sniggering.

Of course, at the end of the day, it's our language, so we're right.

& why would anyone called Richard want to get their name shortened to Dick as a nickname.

May be a relation to the Spotted dicks family
