I play baseball. Pretty religiously. But I can't watch the damn sport. It bores me to death. Is baseball a dying sport?

Yeah it seems like it's dying right now, but then it seems that way every ten or fifteen years or so. In a few years, a Cal Ripken or a McGwire-Sosa record chase will come along and everybody will pay attention again.

Plus, baseball has always been a sport that's better to watch in the park than on TV. You can get a hotdog that way.

I don't think baseball is dying. Most pro sports are under a lot more scrutiny these days than in years past, but baseball is still very popular... much more so in the USA than my native lands pride and joy, Hockey!

I don't see it as a dying sport. I have friends that are adamant about watching every game possible. My roommate is so desperate to watch the Yankees, that he gets on Yahoo and will watch it on there. Some sort of flash program that simulates the game for them.

No way, baseball is awesome. I was just at a Phillies game and had an awesome time. We were 11 rows behind home plate.

How much I would love to agree that it's not slowly fading away, but I think The Reverend is right. It's becoming less and less part of the american culture, and more and more every so often people care thing.

It seems to me that baseball loses to basketball and football.

And soccer? At least soccer is in the olympics.

I think the thing is that it is becoming such an unrealistic sport. Baseball players are turning into football players, they are huge. Everything about baseball has also been focusing on home runs. I mean, as exciting as they are, it used to be people watched baseball to watch the Cal Ripkens, or the Alomars, or the Pat Borders (yes he is a god) now though it seems like these baseball players are inhuman, something we cant relate to. Soccer and Hockey and even Basketball (with the exception of SHAQ) still use players that seem more human like then these steroid induced baseball players. Yeah in football it is even more extreme, but people pay to see monsters go at it. Baseball was supposed to be a more technical game, like golf.

Baseball is all but dead in Canada. I predict the Blue Jays packing up and leaving Canada, and baseball becoming a forgotten sport. Its never recovered here since the strike, and there is no interest for it. We have our hockey and basketball and we are content. Mostly about our hockey though.

I would definitely agree that football is gaining more and more viewers each week. Most people I know would rather watch a football game. I disagree with the idea that basketball is going to overtake baseball. Maybe in the world but definitely not in the U.S. Their viewers numbers have been droppping for years. I personally cannot stand to watch a game because the refs do not understand the idea of traveling.

Back on topic, I do believe that the baseball games are getting boring. It woulldn't be so bad if they didn't go on for so long. I was watching the Red Sox game the other night and it was like 4 hours long. Thats just a little too long to keep someones attention. Although I do like watching the games just to listen to the Rem Dawg (color commentator), he's fucking hilarious sometimes.

It was actually a funny defeat. They almost looked like they had a chance. My roomie is a big time Yankees fan and the look on his face was just priceless as he saw their last man get tagged out.
