Combat! on the Atari 2600 was pretty fun and shipped with the console. The only problem was that you had to have a second person play with you; no single player mode.

Is it me, or did nobody mention:

PAC-MAN (my dad still religiously plays this game)
Joust
Space Invaders
Donkey Kong

Am I the only one here that doesn't like (i.e. sucks really bad at) Tetris?

I have played most consoles and liked it ;)
(former console addict here)

Anyone remember Killer Instinct?

I haven't gone past the playstation, so haven't owned a ps2 or xbox, I discovered computers were more fun and abandoned all consoling after that.

Its number 12 on my list :D

The combo system was ingenious, it was incredibly easy to pick up yet took some time to master. I have yet to see a combo system that comes close. The grapics at the time were excellent, and the music was catchy.

What happened to Rare? They used to make such good games... :weep:

I got so good at it I used to play it on the hardest setting and beat it all the time just to see the alternate endings, I really need a life.

i got the UK version of killer instinct.

and since UK games are programmed to run 17% faster to match US speed(due to their consoles being PAL), if you play a UK game on a US NTSC machine, it's 17% faster than it already is!

117% speed!

Australian consoles are PAL format as well.
Not sure if they are the same as the UK PAL versions though?

they're the same. only a few games were optimized like killer instinct was (fullscreen and 17% faster)

back in the day, most SNES PAL games ran 17% slower than NTSC games AND they had with two black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (kind of like widescreen DVDs) which slightly squished the graphics a bit and made things short and fat.

Yep they are. PAL and NTSC are the only two standards (from what I know).

I just finished installing MAME for the PSP. I now have Galaga to play on my train rides into the city. :)

EDIT: And Cyberball, PuzzleBubble and a host of others that are just waiting to be moved to Memory Sticks.

The only color standards for SNES or the only color standards for television?

If you mean "for television", you're forgetting SÉCAM. But then again, it's French, so forgetting it is not only excusable but commendable! :D
