Passion
I finally saw The Passion Of The Christ yesterday. Picked it up on DVD over at Best Buy (and so did 4.1 million other people apparently). Never did get a chance to see it in theaters (although i really wish i had. would've been interesting seeing people crying and all. kinda like when i went to Fahrenheit 9/11 with everyone cheering for Michael Moore).
I thought The Passion was a good movie. The torture scenes were definitely tough to watch. Like when that cat o nail tails dug into Yeshua's ribcage, and then having chunks of his flesh visibly stripped away.. YOWZA. And what about the part where it LATCHES ONTO PART OF HIS FACE FOR A SECOND. I don't know which movie has the more brutal torture scenes. Mel Gibson's The Passion or Takeshi Miike's Audition.
Anyhow, i joked about how Mel Gibson is seemingly an expert of sorts when it comes to torture. Well, in addition to getting The Passion Of The Christ on DVD, i also picked up The Passion Of The Jew. I never got to watch on TV when it first aired so it was a funny surprise to actually see it for the first time especially AFTER i made the whole Mel Gibson torture/revenge connection in my Paparazzi post yesterday. Because if you haven't already seen that episode of South Park, they made it seem like Mel gets off on being tortured. Made me laugh.

Actually i almost picked up Ransom and Payback on DVD too after i saw Paparazzi. But i decided to just get the two Passion DVDs instead. Didn't want the cashier thinking i was some kind of Mel Gibson worshipper or something.
Kyle: SHUT UP ABOUT JEWS FATASS. YOU DON'T KNOW A THING!
Cartman: OH REALLY? I'VE SEEN 'THE PASSION' THIRTY FOUR TIMES NOW. YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT ONCE! THERE'S EVEN A PART WHERE THE JEWS HAVE A CHANCE TO SAVE JESUS BUT THEY LET A SERIAL KILLER GO INSTEAD AND LAUGH ABOUT IT!
Kyle: YOU'RE WRONG.
Cartman: You know what I think Kyle? I think you're scared. You're scared of the truth. If you aren't scared then go see it. Go see "The Passion" and tell me I'm wrong. 400 million dollars Kyle. The highest grossing film of all time. Those numbers don't lie. Mel Gibson Kyle... Mel... Gibson.
(pause)
Kyle: You're just a stupid asshole Cartman.

I do not like "The Passion of the Christ". I believe it is one of the most horrible movies out there. Do people really believe it is a good movie because they get to see Jesus tortured to death? Though the movie was supposed to make people believe in Christ (at least that's what i think), it's really not good (morally). The entire time I watched it, I was thinking, "oh my god, you fucking sicko, mel, how the fuck can you make this movie?" It's just so horrendous.
*Most likely I will be severly burned for saying this, but I don't care. I just wonder who else doesn't like the movie for the reasons I stated.

Justin-
Just wondering why you referred to Jesus as Yeshua? (The Hebrew form of Joshua which was what Isa* sallalahu aleyhi wasallam (Jesus) was called during his life)
No reason in asking... just found it curious.
*In Islam, we call Jesus Isa (SAW)

I don't understand. What you are saying is horrendous? The fact it was a movie about Christ, the fact it was a movie about Christ's torture and death or the actual technical side to the film, lighting, filming, directing, acting ect...subtleconfused wrote:I do not like "The Passion of the Christ". You say it isn't a moral movie?
Moral: mor·al adj.
Of or concerned with the judgment of the goodness or badness of human action and character
[sarcasm]
Gee, I may be way off base here, but ... wait... wasn't the movie about the goodness or badness of human action and charicter? Naa I can't be right about that one...
[/sarcasm]
Now what I believe you may be thinking is, Mel how can you make a movie so steeped in religious context? As I am guessing you are an agnostic or athiest by your response. To answer that question, he is a highly religious person and wanted to make a movie that showed his beliefs and to that effect he captured the very essence of the gospels in his religion.
"Do people really believe it is a good movie because they get to see Jesus tortured to death? "

Damn... you got me, though I did think it was supposed to be Star Wars: Attack of the clones when I went in... stupid mis-representation of the ad's.

I'm looking for a quote from your post to discredit you, but there aren't any that I can match with what I'm saying.
My stated only my morals and opinions on this movie. I was a little judgmental concerning Mel Gibson's decision to make this movie, but that's what I felt while watching this movie. What I said were horrendous are the parts where Jesus is tortured. My morals are not the same as yours, so you would disagree with me, especially if you're a devout Christian.
Concerning the technical aspects of this film, they were excellent. They produced it in such a way to elicit their desired response from the majority of the Christian audiences (and perhaps others).
