radiohead? huh?I miss the days when 'emo' meant radiohead and bands like that.
How to be:
My point exactly...this emo rage reminds me of the good old days of grunge.glenn wrote:radiohead? huh?I miss the days when 'emo' meant radiohead and bands like that.
Grunge started with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden but when it got popular crappy bands and their fans fucked it up.
This is what is happening with emo. Radiohead started it but Dashboard has fucked it up...

are you fucking retarded? radiohead did not popularize emo. first, they aren't a fucking emo band (unless you go with the definition of emo being simply "emotional," but that's bullshit. if that were true, EVERY band that sang about love or hate or any human emotion would be classified as emo). if any band popularized emo, it was weezer, but apparently you've never heard of them or an album called "pinkerton".

Dipshit--Take a look at the 'emo' kids these days:The Fuzzybug wrote: are you fucking retarded? radiohead did not popularize emo. first, they aren't a fucking emo band (unless you go with the definition of emo being simply "emotional," but that's bullshit. if that were true, EVERY band that sang about love or hate or any human emotion would be classified as emo). if any band popularized emo, it was weezer, but apparently you've never heard of them or an album called "pinkerton".
(Thrice)
And then look at Radiohead:
These guys have dressed like this forever...before Weezer (which I am quite familiar with...I have their first three albums, including Pinkerton--the best of the three).
All I am saying is that after Radiohead's success (and possibly Weezer's too) there was this huge explosion of copycat complainy rock that has since been labeled emo.
This is the truth...thus saith the LORD!

Phife mis-spoke...sorta...more like everyone misunderstood him.
I totally get it.
Grunge is pre-emo.
Radiohead, Nirvana, etc.
Radiohead is pretty much the last link in GRUNGE before the break in the chain to the Dashboard/emo era.
Radiohead is not responsible, but its like radiohead is the blueprint for emo-ness-bands.
I totally get it.

That actually might make a little more sense...Smash wrote: Phife mis-spoke...sorta...more like everyone misunderstood him.

Why? Because Radiohead represented a break from the pure teenage angst of the grunge movement. They are the forefathers of the more thoughtful pain that modern emo bands ooze (like thrice, thursday, and dashboard).
Radiohead definitely set the style too...but I guess that's a different issue...

Oh come on, we're talking about Emo? Is this 2002? Jesus fawking christ, next you'll tell me shoe-gazer music is hip, and raves are just coming into style. Fast forward, gimme a trend I don't know about. At least then I can rip it apart in ignorance, rather than past personal experience. whoops, showing my age again...
i hate to beat a dead horse, and this is an argument that has too many sides and has been debated too many times before, but emo's been dead for a while now. what's considered emo nowaday is pretty much post-hardcore pop (if that genre even makes sense).
the last good emo band was either texas is the reason, sdre, or jets to brazil...
