Jailbreak your iDevice

Post by Dex » 02 Aug 2010 08:32

I've used several different methods in the past to jailbreak my iPod Touch/iPhone. Everytime Apple comes out with a new OS version with new features, someone has to come up with a new way to get around the settings and allow the jailbreak process to work. Well, today user Comex (probably the biggest name in jailbreaking) came out with the simplest way ever.

All you have do is;

1. Visit http://www.jailbreakme.com on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

There really is no step 2... that's all you need to do. The download/installation takes about 7-10 minutes, but it doesn't require you to do anything except wait for it to finish. It's being reported that this JB process works on every iPod Touch & every iPhone, across all OS versions, as well as the iPad. I can verify that it does work on the new iPhone 4, with the newest version of iOS 4.0.1 running on it.

Once the process is complete, you will have a new icon on your desktop, Cydia. Cydia is basically an App Store, but for jailbroken apps; created by people who didn't want to give Apple a % of sales via the iTunes store, or simply from people who's apps were rejected for one reason or another.

Now I'm off to download PDANET so I can teather my iPhone to my netbook... and not pay an extra $20 a month to AT&T :dance:

So fresh and so clean clean
