I knew it as soon as I laid eyes on it, I just wanted some other people to have a crack at it. ;)

But seeing how people seem to be dancing around the correct answer, I'll go ahead and finish it off. This is Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, Greece, site of the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896. The white marble stadium dates to the time of the Ancient Greeks, and I believe the design later inspired the Circus Maximus in Ancient Rome.

Ahh, the curse of having no free time lately. That would have been a fun one to discover.

Great eyes, AB. I guess the buildings just didn't scream ancient Greek to me from the bird's eye view.

At least make it tough, AB.

Will definitely leave this for someone else, in hopes that we'll get more players.

That was my intended point all along. But if no one answers it in the next day or so, feel free to go ahead.

I solved it too within like 10 minutes.

It was an interesting thing to read up on. Why is there a different record for west-to-east and east-to-west. Seems kind of silly.

I saw a very interesting show on PBS about the subject of my pic, and it's been stuck in my brain since.

I assume the difference in the records has to do with currents, winds, etc. and probably dates to the time of sailing ships.

From the northeast of the U.S. to Europe, the gulf stream will carry a boat faster, whereas coming the other direction, unless you cut far south, the current (both water and wind, as they beget each other) is working against you.

Now we are here, in Xanadu?

I have no clue. I found a LOT of interesting possibilities...but I failed. I'll guess Shangdu China. If only to get a new clue.

Who knew being a member of the Fourth Estate could get you an estate like this one?
