I just switched to Mac this year and I love it. I was always quite fond of my PC but I love the integration of the Mac programs and the feeling that I'm not going to be left in the dust by the company in 3 months when they totally change the way their systems run. But that's probably only because I have an Intel.

I don't mind spending the extra money to have something that, for me, just runs better.

What I really want though is a Mac tablet....

Changing the way their systems run? Like a yearly OS X service pack (that you have to pay for)? Or switching from PowerPC to Pentium?

Funny, but none of these frothing-at-the-mouth Mac haters said one thing in their "arguments" to debate my opening point...

TFP doesn't sound like a founding member of the Homebrew Computer Club (amirite?). I don't think she is looking to build her own machine from the motherboard up, or tinker with the internals every other paycheck. So try answering HER question...why should SHE buy a PC when what she is really comfortable with is Windows? From what she said, she is more into the OS than the hardware, and in that case she can get the OS she knows and loves on a machine that offers her another choice which she just might come to enjoy just as much, if not more.

Oh, and the "Macs are twice as expensive" line is flat-out B.S. (about on the same level as stating "Macs are no more secure than PCs"), and every semi-knowledgable person here knows it. I seriously doubt most PC users here are running a $499 Dell. <_<

True enough. Even though I know how to tinker with my computer, I know - sadly - only because of necessity and making very few improvements to my machine. Yeah, I'm very comfortable with Windows, but if anyone knows that you gotta leave your comfort zone to learn something new, it's me. I wouldn't mind learning a new OS, especially if learning it is probably gonna help me in the long run... like I said, Macs have been the standard in the art/photography industry for years.

@ Smashy: Never owned a Mac in my life, actually.

In school we all had to learn our skills on Macs... I guess back in the day Macs were actually a cheaper buy, especially if you bought them in bulk.

What made me really dislike Macs was having to use the shitty iMacs in the school library... I hated the OS then, but I've been told there have been vast improvments to the OS since that time. I also dispised the one-button mouse.

I don't mind paying once a year to stay up to date, but yes I meant that I probably feel more secure because I own an Intel mac, not a Power PC. My boyfriend's laptop is a PowerPC and because of the switch he's sort of been put in a situation where he's going to have to upgrade, so I can understand the frustration.

To my mind though, to own a computer is to spend money, it's like owning a car. Neither PCs or Mac's are static so I chose the one that appeals most to me and hand over my credit card.

Angel, I didn't disagree with your point because I don't disagree with it.

I pointed out some criticisms of what Mac-holes claim. As well as the Mac marketing philosophy. I didn't disparage the product, itself or its capabilities.

Regarding TFP, I asked her that the question is really up to what makes sense FOR HER.

I agree, that if you like to tinker(overclocking, etc...), macs probably aren't the ideal machine. There are those that like to mod their shit out (ie- cars). I'm not like that. If I do anything to my shit, i make sure that it is reliable day after day....and under warranty. I don't have time to mess around and have shit break or have compatability issues in a middle of a job. I currently own a power pc powerbook right now which is doing decent (working on 5+ psd's at a time with indesign and illustrator + whatever else). Theres some slight lag when rendering multiple files, but nothing that really hinders me from doing my job...plus, my laptop was already payed off after like 2-3 jobs, so i don't mind having to upgrade. With the intel mac desktops, it's nice to know that i can plug in new processors every other update and that my machine won't be "obsolete" after 2 months. The laptops are a little harder to upgrade right now since the processors are soldered on.

And...i'm really looking forward to viewing porn on my soon-to-be sexy 30 inch cinema display.
