I think it's old news, but I just found out that Damages has been axed.

Not only is it old news, its not 100% correct news.

It's true that FX said "no more Damages" because it costs too much, but Sony (who owns the show) is in talks with DirecTV right now. Sony basically needs a network to say "I'll pay you X amount of $ for your show". FX won't pay what Sony is asking, so the show is in a sort of limbo.

From Entertainment Weekly, April 2010
Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that Sony is talking to DirecTV’s 101 Network about partnering on a possible fourth season of Damages. The cost-sharing arrangement would be similar to the one DirecTV and NBC forged with Friday Night Lights, which means future seasons of Damages would air first on DirecTV with a second window on FX.

TVGuide is writing up how the out of work stars of Damages are now making cameos on Royal Pains. Marcia Gay Harden, Campbell, etc.

There have been no less than 2 articles in TVGuide bemoaning the loss of Damages. But you are right, their focus was the out of work actors and that FX is not renewing the show.

Oh ye of little faith...
From Entertainment Weekly (today)
After months of negotiations, DirecTV has reached a deal with Sony Pictures Television to acquire Damages from FX. Under the terms of the pact, DirecTV’s 101 network will air two additional seasons of the drama—each consisting of 10 episodes—beginning in 2011.

Unlike DirecTV’s deal with NBC for Friday Night Lights, Damages will only air on DirecTV.

“We’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television as we breathe new life into this outstanding drama,” said Patty Ishimoto, general manager of The 101 Network and vice president of entertainment for DirecTV. “It’s a win for our customers because only they will be able to see these new episodes and another great step forward for DirecTV as we continue to build our growing portfolio of exclusive, award winning programming.“

Added FX president John Landgraf: “FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DIRECTV and we are thrilled they stepped in. Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”

From thehollywoodreporter
Good news for fans of The Closer, Leverage and newcomer Rizzoli & Isles: TNT has renewed all three. No surprise based on the recent ratings for all three shows.

Here’s the press release with the details:

TNT Orders New Seasons of Three Hit Series: The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles and Leverage

TNT has ordered new seasons of three of the network’s hit series. The Closer, which continues to rank as ad-supported cable’s #1 series of all time, will return for its seventh season. Rizzoli & Isles, which currently ranks as cable’s #1 new series for the year-to-date, will return for a second season. Leverage, which is performing exceptionally well in its new Sunday timeslot, will be back for a fourth season. TNT has ordered 15 episodes each of The Closer and Leverage, along with 13 episodes of Rizzoli & Isles, with all three slated to start their new seasons in 2011.
