Where do you guys see the next bat film going? Like Pirates 2 where everything turned to poop? Or Empire Strikers Back-ish in greatness?

The first POTC wasn't even that great. Nice kids movie but hardly an epic. Just because something makes a lot of money doesn't make it genius.

That being said Christopher Nolan is one of the more talented people working right now and I can only think with less involvment from Goyer (while he tries to get 'The Flash' off the groundgay) this sequel will kick much of the ass.

I can't see him pulling off the manic nature of the Joker. Should be interesting though. I was so impressed by Batman Begins that I already have that low expectation that preceeds a sequel.

Heath Ledger's acting has always grated me. He does awful accents for a start and I just can't see him coming anywhere near close to Nicholson's performance, which I really enjoyed. Burton's movie was a different animal though, but even the Scarecrow was over the top enough to work in both movies, so I doubt the performance will be a subdued one. Personally I can't see Ledger doing a mind-blowing job at all, if anything he'll be competent enough not to annoy the fuck out of me for 2 hours, in which case I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Batman Begins was cool but the overdone third act was a bit too much for me. Shoulda been just Batman and Gordon taking down the mob!

Anyway I have high hopes for this one as now the origin is out the way they can hit the ground running. Hopefully they wont make the Joker too serious as that'll defy alot of what makes the character great. Make him a psycho for sure but he's gotta be FUNNY!

Apparently some dude called Justin Long has been cast as Robin?!?

"Despite Christopher Nolan’s claims to the contrary, we have learned from a trusted source that Justin Long, star of Accepted and the ubiquitous Apple Computer commercials, has been cast a Robin the Boy Wonder in The Dark Knight." from CHUD.COM

They also need to get Harvey Dent spot on as he'll have a big role in film 3. Here's hoping it all turns out good!

That's bullshit.

Robin is not in the next movie.

That's exactly what I thought.

Maybe at most there'll be a Dick Grayson/Tim Drake character in some cameo role, but you can't imaging Robin so soon in this franchise.

Nolan on Ledger...

Post by UncleMao » 12 Oct 2006 15:26

This excerpt was taken from http://batman-on-film.com

Tuesday, October 10, 2006 - 9:10 AM:
Nolan talked to SCI FI WIRE about the casting of Heath Ledger as The Joker:

"He's just exactly the kind of energy I needed for the character...Everything about the risks that that performer is willing to take are the things I need for somebody to take on that iconic figure. It's going to be a huge challenge for us to create it, and he's exactly the guy you want to be in the trenches with."

"To be frank, I hadn't really thought about doing the sequel while we were doing the first one, but we wanted to end the first one with a sense of possibility. And, frankly, the dynamic of that scene and the sense of possibility that we tried to leave the audience with at the end of Batman Begins just stuck with me. And I felt it as much as I hope the audience did. So we really just want to carry on that story and see where it goes."

Nolan also commented that due to his work on THE PRESTIGE, he hasn't been able to focus on casting. However, the word is floating around the the part of Harvey Dent has been, or is close to being cast, and an announcement is coming soon...

Here's a heads up from BOF. I believe the press junket for THE PRESTIGE is this coming weekend. Consequently, Nolan and Christian Bale are virtually assured of getting tons of THE DARK KNIGHT questions thrown their way -- which of course will filter online almost instantly.
