PWNING
i use final cut pro 3 on my laptop (i use a mac, obviously) and we use final cut pro HD over at the editing lab on campus.jdaw2552 wrote: Justin, what kind editing program did you use. cause im an amateur film guy and i use pinnacle pro. but i've used Imovie too.
i've had fcp on my mac for about 2 years now but i've only started using it like 2 months ago (when i got into this class).
in the past, i just used imovie to cut things together (i've edited 2 short movies using imovie for this other film class i took 3 years ago). one as a free favor for a friend (some really goofy chinese gangster revenge movie that's dubbed into english and directed by an indian guy... it's really dumb... but apparently it was the best out of all the other shorts made by the other groups in class..... based on the editing of course) and another was for my own group project for a class (which was a sequel to a past short movie [directed by one of my group members] and basically just a rip off of the Bad Boys concept [buddy cop movie]. except it had a malaysian flavor to it [as opposed to the real miami based Bad Boys]. pretty 'high budget' (looking) too. we had a chase scene, a fight scene, a gun fight scene, some stupid romantic comedy stuff, the stereotypical on edge police chief etc etc....(basically all the trappings of a stereotypical cop movie). it was called.... Bad Boyz: Back In Action.. or something. don't look at me. i didn't come up with it. i just handled the camera work and editing duties. that short ran for 23 minutes long and again got 'best in show'. for an amateur student film edited using just imovie [which is really a bare bones editing software], it was pratically perfect [again, in terms of shots and editing], and we got like a 39/40 for that short.
i say practically because the only reason why the teacher didn't give us a 40 was because "nothing is perfect". pwned. (and really, even if it did get a 40/40, it still wasn't the prefect end all be all student film. but it was good for what it was)
i posted about those shorts on this site 3 years ago.

Sam Raimi didn't invent a style. He is very derivative of Argento (Dario not Asia) and other Italian surrealist horror movie makers.joemaxwell wrote:
And keep in mind, Sam Raimi was inventing a style, and you are copying a style. He was making a film in a whole new way, and you are making a commercial in a very tired way. I don't think the comparison works. He had plenty of money on Quick and The Dead. He wasn't masking anything.
Also Evil Dead had spectacular writing. It was written to account for a lack of budget.
If your writing sucks then get a new writer. Someone creative who knows how to modify originality by being subtle and derivative.

I think Raimi definitely invented a style, even if it was based on other filmmakers. I think he's much more influenced by three stooges than by Argento. He created all sorts of cheap and funky camera rigs to get new shots and took splatter to a level it had never been taken before. Also, nobody mixed true horror and true comedy the way Raimi did. People have been trying to match that for years now, and nobody can. It always ends up scary but not very funny, or funny but not very scary. Raimi managed to make it both, in equal mixes, thanks in large part to Bruce Campbell.

Reading this thread made me think of a video I watched recently. I assume they have link protection so copy and paste into the address bar and replace "0000" with "http".
0000://mediax.muchosucko.com/movies/reeltruth.mov
Its another one of those videos where people say what they actually mean/think rather than the PC bs they would normally say. Story is basically a new director filming a commercial.

except for the fact their heads are not in proportion with their bodies, and it's not them, you're right, it's real.minombreesjuan wrote: holy shit has anyone seen high res pics of this? justin please find some high res lol

It's always amazed me how people can think the most obvious shitty fake is real. The Olsens went from stick figures, to girls with C cup tits overnight. Right. And as Ryan said, their heads are not in proportion with their bodies.minombreesjuan wrote: holy shit has anyone seen high res pics of this? justin please find some high res lol

How can someone not only be so stupid as to think this piece of shit fake is real, but to ask for hi res pics in the middle of a fucking thead?
Shhhhh, just calm down heineken, remember, when you are angry at complete dumbass's who think the blair witch project was real, or that picture is real, just simply look at your avatar, and you'll soon find yourself in a completely relaxed state.heineken wrote:It's always amazed me how people can think the most obvious shitty fake is real. And yes how could someone POSSIBLY think that is real? I mean isn't one of them anorexic? Use your brain!
