Re: "Cloverfield"
I like the writer of this one but I see it coming as the next SOAP.
Huge hype. Limited audience. Crushed expectations. IMO

Re: "Cloverfield"
There is no way this flops as hard as SOAP.
No. Way.
No. Way.

I can use acronyms too.

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone...

Re: "Cloverfield"
Can I be the only one who is utterly annoyed by viral marketing?
Re: "Cloverfield"
I managed to sneak in before the hoards descended yesterday.
The movie is good. Also, short.
Be aware that there is a significant portion of time before the monster makes its presence known. I didn't mind at all but I know that there will be people who will be irritated at that.
Also be aware that the plot is not the rise and fall of Godzilla. It is about the little ants trying to scurry away and their little ant concerns. Tom Cruise does not take out a tripod with a belt of grenades in this movie.
There are scares, but not jump scares (which I despise).
Stick around for the credits (there's music composed especially for them!) and after if you'd like, there's something there but it is a small thing.

Re: "Cloverfield"
So I have decided that the music in the credits was the best idea.
It is just such a good mix of what the fuck (compared to the tone of the rest of the movie) and awesome.
I was all like
Really?

But then it was good

Re: "Cloverfield"
MY favorite part of that video is it says 'dangerously close to Connecticut'. It then shows a graphic of the 'oil rig' on a map, and it's far closer to France.
Also the currents would send that oil right into England. It sucks to be them, but we're ok.

Re: "Cloverfield"
^^^
You got that this video was fake, right?
The "oil spill" shadow under the surface of the water was moving towards the platform. And after the collapse, pieces of the rig get launched out of the water.

Yes of course. I was trying to point out that it wasn't a particularly good fake. Was that in the movie? Or just viral?
Re: "Cloverfield"
It's a viral, they put out similar ones in multiple languages...Japanese, Russian, Italian, French, Spanish, German.
Since seeing the movie on Sunday, I've been engrossed in the viral ARG campaign. It's interesting, but I'm not sure I've really learned anything definitive. Kind of like the LOST viral ARG campaign I would think. Every piece of the puzzle just raises more questions.

Which is why I hate JJ Abrams viral stuff. It'd be amazing if you were rewarded for the amount of labor it takes.
