I went. I watched. I had a blast.

The sad thing is, I heard they had wanted to make this the first of a series, but due to the disappointing box-office, I imagine that's now unlikely to happen.

That's really too bad, because a Machete/Thanksgiving double-feature would have been fucking awesome.

Thanks to the genius at Miramax who thought Easter weekend would be the perfect release date. What a dumb.

Didn't the Weinsteins release this?

I know they dropped like 80 mill of their own money into it. Maybe Miramax still has their fingers in the pie?

Either way, you can't make a B movie and expect A list turn out. That's just bad planning. Plus I didn't really like either movie but whatever.

Y'know, the ads didn't really give any plot, any reason to go see the show save for lots of guns, car crashes, and the names Rodriguez and Tarantino.

I know I never used to pay attention to who directed movies. It wasn't until I went to a liberal arts school and listened to the artsy fartsy types drone on and on about "This was Roman Polanski's first" or "Quentin Tarantino is so edgy" before I started associating the names with the movies and their styles. I somehow doubt that the average "I'm bored, let's go see a flick" type really thinks about it, either, and without knowledge of the names behind them, I doubt the trailer would generate much interest.

In a way, Eamon is right. These looked like b-movies to the general public, and they were treated as such.
