Rocky!! ?
I watched it the other day. Why? Cos we were there and had to choose something.
In my opinion, it was trying to be too much like the original Rocky film, but the franchise is too fargone into the realm of ludicrousness that trying to recapture the pure, innocent, all heart motives of the original just seems so false and forced that the ridiculous lack of action or cheese simply makes it a terribly boring film.
Rocky got cheesier and cheesier with each sequel, which is fair enough, but to just stop and suddenly be right back at the beginning of the series in terms of narrative and direction seems pointless. No one really cares about Rocky's pure heart anymore...they just want to see him stress over family issues and then use that stress to go kick some dude's ass.
He fought MR T for god's sake. He fought Dolph "man mountain" Lundgren and brought together the US and Russia...he triumphed in the most cheesily of ways in the worst coreographed boxing scenes ever, all to the beat of classic 80s montage tunes, and after all that, we get this movie that is more Stallone than Balboa....just slow and pretty dull.
