The episodes weren’t shown out of order.. after filming 11 episodes, they shot the 12th and 13th to go between what was shot as the first and second to clear up questions people had from the pilot. They were inserted between what was shot as first and second, but they were supposed to be there as the second and third episodes broadcast. Fox didn’t do that, and Tim Minear’s said so somewhere.
Television is an ass-backward medium. No one on the power positions gives a shit about creativity and innovation, it’s all about the bottom line, the Number Gods and the Money Gods. This is why the last fifteen years has seen us lose programs like The Critic, Remember WENN (up there with The Sopranos as one of the most flawless shows ever, heard of it? Probably not.), Family Guy, Push Nevada, Buddy Faro, The Powers That Be (one of the best sitcom ensembles ever), Firefly, Roar, Maybe it’s Me (one of the funniest sitcoms I’ve ever seen…remember it? Probably not.), and at least ten other shows I can’t think of…but we’re never hurting for a forensic drama, and they’ll keep rolling out Law & Order clones until nuclear war wipes us all out. And we’re in serious danger of losing Arrested Development, the best thing to happen to the dying sitcom genre in years. But David Spade can always get another show, and CBS’ dumb-fat-white- guy-with-hot-bitchy-wife -and-moron-friends -and-two-or-three-kids factory keeps rolling out forgettable shit. A lot of this crap has to do with the fact that everything is still run by the Nielsen system which is majorly wrong and has a massive margin of error. And what do we have to show for it? Another new show, lost. But not to worry. I’m sure they can fill the hour with a new, exciting drama about sexy people who work with corpses, or a reality series about ugly fat women who are stranded on an island. Will they find enough food to sustain their appetites? Will they become thin and beautiful and acceptable? Faced with no other options, will they turn gay?–Or were they gay to begin with?

Yeah, the Clerks cartoons were played out of order too. What Kevin Smith intended was to have the first show and have the second show be the corny "flashback episode" which is hilarious because they only had one show to flashback to. Anyways, they (I think CBS) played the flashback episode first and then played either the first or thrid show afterwards. Then then promptly cancelled the series. Luckily you can find all six (3 or 4 unreleased) of the episodes on DVD. Woohoo! Kevin Smith is the man! (no comments on Jersey Girl as I havent seen it yet)
and FOX News is for easily lead republican idiots, scentless. Thats why they distort all the news to make Bush look like some kind of god. Check out Al Franken’s book "Lies and The Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right".
I’d much rather have a Republican in office than a lying, cheating, stealing Democrat. But that’s not what’s important here…what’s important is the Family Guy is comming back!! Screw Wonderfalls.

(not to mention that the video was filmed in 1992. I would much rather have a president addicted to poon, than a lying idiot. Not to mention that the cut in aid that was originally promised. Oh. Tim Minear also had this to say:
—————————–
In terms of "saving" the show? Not really anything you can do. The network is a non-starter here. The studio, 20th, is possibly a different matter. If they get the sense that people would buy a complete series DVD set, it might happen that the series becomes available in future. But please don’t waste your time or money on trying to revive WONDERFALLS for a pick-up with Fox. Ain’t gonna happen.
When we first began this series, I was asked by many why I would put my trust in the network that mishandled FIREFLY so terribly. Well, because it felt different to me. Initially, there was real excitement and belief in WONDERFALLS at the network. My feeling with FIREFLY was always that since they didn’t much like or understand it from the brilliant pilot, that we were kind of doomed. I felt that if a network didn’t believe in a show, no matter its potential, that it couldn’t launch it or sell it with any measure of success.
And again, WONDERFALLS felt totally different to me. At first. Then, at some point in the process, I could sense an erosion in enthusiasm. Even as we were finding our footing and delivering to them some really exceptional episodes (ones you never got to see!), things got chilly. Then they couldn’t seem to find any place on the schedule for us. Then they did… and it was Friday night. I tell you now, the moment that was announced, I knew it was over. They were dumping us into Friday nights and that was that. When the smashing reviews started coming in… and coming and coming and coming… I think they didn’t know what to think or do. You have but one chance to make a good first impression. But they’d given up on the show before it ever aired, and even when the lion’s share of critics were hailing the show, it was too late for them to backtrack and launch the series with any kind of conviction. My FIREFLY experience was repeating itself. I think it was USA Today that said this may be "the wrong show, in the wrong season, on the wrong night, on the wrong network." Just so. I do think market forces were at work here, too. Not just incompetence.
I don’t know if any network could have brought an audience to this show. Certainly no network that dumped it on Friday night, promoted it in such as way as to try and trick people into thinking it was DAWSON’S CREEK or that didn’t, apparantly, agree with the things the critics were saying about it. I do think any network wants whatever they pay for to be a success. I don’t think they MEAN to strangle something in the crib. I know that the next time I shop something to a network, I’m going to hope to find a network that understands and believes in the thing they ordered. And if they thought it looked good on the menu, I’d hope they’d still have a taste for it once it got to the table.
There’s a whole ‘nother half of this post… but I deleted it.
I don’t know who I’m more pissed off at. FOX for fucking over ANOTHER great show. or Justin for turning me on to such a great show. Damn it. I guess because Wonderfalls (and Family Guy, and Clerks, etc) wern’t "eXtreeeem car crashes" or "screwed up fake reality TV" it was bound to fail. Who the hell is in charge of TV shows being canceled or not anyways? I see shows like "the west wing" which I’ve never seen in my life, get 900 seasons. And then I see Awesome shows like Futurama get boned just because they don’t have "universal humor or charm" Fucking idiots.
The people who cancel shows are most likely the same ones that try and silence Howard Stern and put all live brodcasts on 30 second delays. God damned FCC.
They were…
Actually Futurama got canned because it WAS NEVER ON. It had the worst timeslot in history, and was continually preempted.
Similarly, Family Guy had poor ratings because of time slot changes…
Clerks never had a chance because Disney was out for Smith’s blood at the time the show came out. I believe it was Dogma related…not sure though.
It sucks that this show got canceled. This is why I don’t watch new tv shows. I hate it when they get cancelled.
I don’t give a fuck what fox does now they are awsome because Family Guy is re-admerging for a new season in January 2005. This is not a joke. It might not be played on fox itself, but it will be played on Cartoon network. Family Guy Rocks!

Stacia, I’m not sure why you think the show sucks? You must just be jealous of Caroline or something. Seriously, it’s the best writing on TV. erm, was as of yesterday.
Since the President of Fox isn’t able to hear me complain to her in voice mail, I sent an email to WB. Some of you guys may want to do the same to some network’s VP. A nice polite message pointing out how great Wonderfalls is, and how you will never watch Fox again just might perk up some interest at another network. Some how, I just don’t see Fox even bothering to do a DVD release of a show they hate so much. And, even if they did, it wouldn’t be as interesting as seeing where the show could go over time.

It was cancelled anyway.

i was so pissed that clerks got cancelled, cause i loved tht show.,I actually just got the dvd a few days ago of it, and on the audio commentary kevin smith and everyone else involved in it rip into ABC calling them profane things (such as kid rapists and the such) for fucking them over. th 4th epsiode was aired first, then the 2nd, and then no others. order is all wacky.
i am so excited about family guy coming back to tv. i have seen every episode and it remains one of my favorite shows ever.
never seen firefly. it looked interesting, but i still never watched it.
im watching this show called farscape that i like, but it was cancelled abruptly about a year ago. but i like it.
it seems all my favorite shows are cancelled, will get cancelled, and will not be appreciatd truely for about a year or so after they are cancelled.
go figure.
I blame this on all the coke TV execs snort.
Tim Minnear is getting screwed all the way around this season. He co-produces Angel with Joss Whedon. WB is pulling that show at the end of this season. They had solid ratings too. Minnear and Whedon took it to UPN hoping they might pick it up like they did Buffy, but no go. So, poor Tim Minnear. Hollywood sucks. Network TV sucks. Reality TV bullshit….
