OH SNAPS!

During a nationally televised Hurricane Katrina relief show, actor/rapper Kayne West showed the world what he was made of as he went on a tirade against George W. Bush.

George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” West said. “They’re saying black families are looting and white families are just looking for food…they’re giving the (Army) permission to shoot us”

NBC attempted to cut off the out-of-line remarks by cutting to a shot of actor Chris Tucker, but by then, the damage had already been done.

No doubt about it. Kanye was definitely playing the race card.

Video can be found here here.

Mike Myers was probably thinking “Oh shit”.

  1. I hope I’m not the only one who can’t help but suspect a bit of self-promotion here. We’re talking about an egomaniac who cries when he doesn’t win awards or gets given a bad review. Not to mention someone who’s proven to have the reasoning abilities of a developmentally challenged seven-year-old. Not to say the issue isn’t worth discussing, but did it have to be Kanye?

  4. Kanye West is so nervous in that clip.

It is suprising how nervous he is considering what he does for a living, but he is saying stuff he’s not supposed to say.

  10. You have me at a loss. You know my name but who are you? Just another American who saw too many movies as a child? Another orphan of a bankrupt culture who thinks he’s John Wayne? Rambo? Marshall Dillon?

  14. #8 – respect to you, sir.

Yes Kanye looked nervous, but he was speaking off-the-cuff from the heart, whilst Mike was reading direct from an autocue.
You have to respect where he’s coming from though, and there is a hell of a lot of truth in what he says, possibly too much truth for some people.

But the fact is that people are probably raping, murdering, assaulting and looting in New Orleans, but this is regardless of creed.

Hell yeah more should be done to help those suffering, but those that criticise Kanye for his words should remember that he cares for the people down there, probably more than their president.

  15. #14- Thanks. I’d actually prefer to be posting about Hilary Duff’s anorexia than politics. But you can only watch your country go to hell in a handbasket for so long before you finally speak out.

  18. If black people want to be treated better they should stop been poor. It’s clearly their fault. As far as I’m concerned the army should mow down the roiters like the scene at the end of Gangs of New York.

  20. Combatting media stereotypes of black people by being an inarticulate, raving black stereotype on TV. Truly, the man is a genius.

  21. The comments were cut from the West Coast feed.

Other than West’s comments, the whole thing was scripted. I know people who work there.

  23. We all know George Bush caused the hurricane to wipe out the blacks. It was either him or the terrorists have stolen his technology and have used it against us.

  24. #18… and poor people smell bad too. That’s why they started using guns to get them from a distance instead of beating them with clubs. You get to close and you end up smelling like that episode from Seinfeld with the stinky car.

  26. That clip wouldn’t play for me (said I didn’t have the required codec), but can also be found here (also good for if you don’t want to register).

And it was quite awesome. Kanye’s one-liner at the end, coupled with Mike Myers’ reaction the entire time, made the moment about a 9 or 10 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale.
