(BUMPING UP AN OLD POST BECAUSE THIS DOESN’T WARRANT A NEW ONE)
FUCK FUCK FUCK. okay. so. FUCKING NEW SERVER PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT!!!!!
GOD. what a fucking nightmare it’s become. so remember when i needed help with that new server? well, i finally got it up and running right, moved the entire site over and for a while all was fine and dandy. then the server went down. okay. so i have it rebooted. then it’s fine again. then it’s down again. ok. so i have it rebooted again. then it’s down. FUCK. so i have it rebooted. then it’s seemingly fine. THEN IT ALL GOES TO HELL. php errors, missing core wordpress files, FUCKED UP MYSQL DATABASES (looked like somebody hacked it and entered some malicious code or something and totally fucked everything up. couldn’t even access anything on the server. it just wont load up. but whm works. and so does cpanel. except that i cant fucking get rid of one of the corrupted sql databases! it just wont be deleted. well fuck that. FUCK that new server. it’s been giving me grief for the past two weeks trying to get it up and running without problems. ENOUGH. i’m just gonna cancel that account, get a refund OR at least credit this server with the amount i paid for that other FUCKED UP server and just continue hosting the site on this old server.
since this server still had an older backup of the site from two days ago, before the move, it was missing almost 2 days worth of comments. so i had to retrieve the comments from the corrupted database, clean them up, then somehow insert them all back into the database on this old server. after literally 8 plus hours of fucking around with things, emailing tech support back and forth like 15 times, trying to figure out what the fuck just happened on the new server, and then desperately trying to get the site back online on the old server, i think i have everything back to normal now. oh. forums are offline for now until i can restore all the missing posts from the past two days. too fucking tired to do it right now.
so. apologies for the downtime and i hope i don’t have to deal with any of this backend/server shit anymore!!!
Is anybody out there a pro at configuring the settings of a dedicated server using WHM cPanel?
I just got a new server and i’ve been trying to set it up myself but i’m at a complete loss at what to do and how to do it.
Basically, i’m trying to get the primary and secondary nameservers up and running so that i can point a domain name to that server.
And i need someone to do tech support for me! Because i’m like a complete noob at this kind of shit. Is anybody out there who’s willing to help out?
Please send me an e-mail at psykotik@gmail.com and i’ll explain what i’ve been trying to do (unsuccessfully) and hopefully you can fix things up all good and proper!
MUCH THANKS TO WHOEVER CAN HELP OUT.
Umm… first
finally i make my triumphant return
i assume you have a bunch of jojo posts saved up for the summer and in light of my return i believe we should celebrate by posting all those jojo …posts

Good luck Justin, that’s way above my head.
Just to let everyone know, this dude helped me out with some php/sql software I was looking for to run a blog for friends, and it’s now been up and running for 3 years without a single glitch.
Someone help him out, keep the kharma flowing. If I were a bit smrter, I would.

All I can say is sorry, I couldn’t even get the nameservers responding when I was ‘helping’. Then to have problems beyond that part would melt anyone’s mind. Good luck to you in your quest to not look at a server’s configuration ever again.

You must be using Microsoft. Try Linux instead.
#27 | Comment by FapTastic — September 9, 2007 @ 4:28 pm
Sorry to hear about the troubles you’re having. Is the server owned by you or hosted by a company – if the latter I think you need to name and shame them if they aren’t helping out in getting your server sorted – thats what they are being paid for anyway.
I’ve done some limited cpanel work as I use it for all of my client work so I’ll be happy to help unless its too complated to melt my mind too!!

I know who’s doing this.
Its the motherfucking cyber weasels pecking at the meaty flesh of the internet.
There is only one way to stop them from futher damaging the already damaged and vulnerable soft spot.
1. Sacrifice 2 unborn sheep. Collect the blood in a golden chalice.
2. Mix the blood with 7up and Burnetts Vodka.
10. After defeating and casting mighty Cthulhu seal the gates.
11. Retrieve the golden servers from the beasts interior.
ALAS! HEED THIS WARNING, ONLY THE MIGHTIEST OF THE MIGHTIEST WILL SUCEED WERE OTHERS HAVE PERISHED.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU STRANGER.

@27: Shall I point out the numerous root exploits that have been written for Linux over the last decade or two? Or the fact that Linux is trying very, very hard to be just like MS (hell, they even have their own .NET implementation)? Also, for your edification:
Netcraft:
Linux Apache/1.3.34 (Unix) mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 PHP/4.4.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_ssl/2.8.25 OpenSSL/0.9.7a 9-Sep-2007 66.232.100.26
nmap (eesh, sure does take its time): A number of things, namely: Linux 2.4.31 w/grsec (x86) (90%), Linux 2.4.32 (x86) (90%), Linux 2.4.18-10 (Red Hat 7.3) (89%), Linux 2.4.33 (88%)
xprobe2:[+] Host 66.232.100.26 Running OS: “Linux Kernel 2.4.27” (Guess probability: 90%)
Please do your homework before opening your mouth.
Anywho, to be constructive. If you think it’s a hacking problem, you might wanna have a look at your logs. Most h4x0rs aren’t smart enough to know how to completely cover their tracks; I’ve been doing servers for ~10 years and I barely have a clue how to do it myself. You might be able to find something to identify who did / is doing it and put a stop to it. Of course, knowing *which* logs to examine is another story.
Also, in the nmap scan, I found something rather troubling that seems directly related to the problem. If you can, Justin, could you email me (address provided with comment is valid) so we could look into getting it fixed?
