Especially when the person who said it usually meant nothing by it and is forced to feel guilty, shamed, or ‘bad’ for saying something in jest?
Of course, I probably have no right to express these opinions. Why? I am the dead-on example of the ‘opressor’. Single, white (oh, excuse me, Ukranian, German, British, and Scottish) straight, not too tall, not too short, not too skinny, not too fat, not too old, not too young male.
I think it is bullshit when we over worry about what we say (or others say) when what is said has no relevance at all. It is the MEANING of what we say. Or more importantly, it is what we THINK.

You all have missed the point entirely. What Suzi said is in no way offensive, or at least should not be. There are socially acceptable terms that you can call people and ones that cannot be said.
Terms like "gook, cracker, spic, wetback, nigger, honkie, fag, queer, etc" and the list goes on and on are not socially acceptable, they are degrading and used to lower someone down to a level beneath you. (before anyone says anything this is an editorial and by my using the above terms it is ok to point them out when not specifically directing them at a single group).

Perhaps we could all run around saying caucasion, homosexual, and african american, but it is only the people screaming about prejudism that need to do this. But let’s not start accusing people of prejudism when that was never intended.
I am the first to admit I joke about Gays, but I tried to do it in an acceptable way so people would realize it was about humor. elPrezidente, you make a good point, especially the Olympics comment. I think there is still a difference though. My Cuban friend calls me a "little white bitch" only because he is not white. Technically I am not either, but let’s not get into semantics. When naming race in a comment like that you are distinguishing yourself as being different. I could actually go to compton and say just that, if I had friends there. But a black man going into trailer trash America wouldn’t call someone he didn’t know a "little white bitch" either. Not a good comparison.
My point is, Suzi did not mean any offense when she wrote that, and I am sure Justin did not take any. The people who did take offense, are usualy the most prejudice of them all. If not, then why make a bid deal about it. Would I get upset if Justin called me a "little American Indian/Irish/French bitch"? The only part that could be offensive is the "bitch" part. But an American Indian reading this might take offense I suppose, but only because they are already burning up inside thinking everyone is prejudice against them which makes them the prejudice ones.
In the end, sure we don’t need to put classifications to get the same point across. But the people getting upset over those classifications may be the ones that need to decide who has the problem….the one who said it or the one that blew the intent out of proportion. Not pointing fingers, just making a general rationalization.

But, do you think that suzi calls all her friends by their ethnic adjective? I doubt it. Moreso, I know none of my black friends would want to be called a "black bitch", regardless of how I may intend it to come across. Again, this isn’t about suzi. It’s about why we tolerate one thing, and not another.
B. I’ve stated repeatedly that I’m NOT looking for a "fight".
So re-read my posts, and then call me names. Jackass.
Now, to address your thoroughly thought out bits of wisdom. Trust me, I’m "grasping" your point, as difficult as it may be for someone of my simple intellectual disposition. It may be you that is missing what I’ve tried to communicate. Obviously, rather unsuccessfully. Here’s the gist. This isn’t about this one sentence, BUT about a trend. I pointing it out in this particular instance, and hoping, against all hope, that you somehow divinly inspired, realize that I might actually have a point. Even more so, maybe even notice it yourself in your own everyday life.
I know – a longshot.
One more thing. I don’t think that anyone enjoys having their "ethnicity" attached to every other attribute that makes them, who they are. ie. "oh, she’s that pretty black chick", or "he’s that smart asian dude", etc. Get the idea? Can’t you just be pretty, or smart? It doesn’t need to be a slur. Sure ethnicity is a part of each one of us, but it is the most superficial one. This may NOT seem like a big deal to you, however rest assured that if you’ve been confronted with this for a lifetime it might grind on you just a bit. I think most people of "color" would agree. Try it on for size.
Since I know I have to state it at the end of this post again, just so you don’t rant about me being a moron again.
I DO NOT THINK LIZ/SUZI MEANT ANY ARM/INSULT/ETC. But I hope, my point still stands.

Maybe not quite. By tolerating these sort of descriptive phrases I think you’re fostering an overall trend in society. I for one, have noticed this trend for some time. As well, as the stupid husband jokes, etc. It may not seem like much at first, but its one baby step at a time. So while, you’re very right over a particular individual here or there, I think in the end it gains more credence within society as whole than it deserves if you’re giving in to it.
So let Justin just be a "little bitch" – I don’t see the point in tying race to it. Just like if you’re to call me a fuckhead, you don’t need to call me a "white fuckehead". I think "fuckhead" alone is plenty descriptive.

"East European" ??? More like North European. Believe me, we have ALOT of rascism here in Denmark. And I’m not white. Why would you think that ? I’m Green (From Greenland) not white. Ok, blame it on me for not letting it drop, but at least Prez and I are just haveing an intelligent debate without flames. On that note:
Prez: I respect your position and agree to a certain extent. But then I ask this…..If a white guy says to his black friend, "check out that hot black chick over there!" and the black guy gets upset, it is because of the label placed on the girl. But now picture this. You are at a wedding where all but one person is black, the one person being white. Now the same black guy says to his black friend "Damn, that white girl is pretty hot." Do you think anyone will get upset over the classification? What if the friend he was pointing her out to was also white? Here I will quote the Bible in a round about way, "Pull the log out of your own eye before you point out the splinter in your neighbors." Basically, what I am trying to say is this, I agree and actually try to follow by what you say (fuckhead is funny by the way, will have to use that more….I like assmonkey though). However, when an opportunity presents that classification helps distinguish who I am referring to, I do not fear I will upset any of my friends by using that class, no matter their race. I am just as apt to say "white girl" if she is surrounded by Mexicans, or Asians or regardless. If she was Mexican surrounded by Mexicans, that is when it would be not needed to throw in the class, and it could be considered uncouth.
I guess my bottom line is there is a time and place, and I feel that if the intent was not malicious, it should not be taken as such.

Ohh… and i saw "Red Dragon" last night and i have to say i was impressed. I personally perfered it much more then "Manhunt" but i guess it must be because of Anthony Hopkins potrale of Dr.Hannibal Lector. I would put it in second in the Hannibal Lector series, behind "Silence of the Lambs" and before "Manhunt", and "Hannibal" being my least favorite (But still good)

At last, the last comment. The ninetieth (at least when I wrote this) comment in what was arguably the biggest community involvement since Justin’s department from F.U.B.A.R. It’s a shame that it was all triggered by Suzi making an incredibly innocent comment on how Justin was a little Asian bitch. It’s sad that in our society people are still discussing racism. I guess it’s the bitter aftertaste of slavery that triggered all of this discussion of race back in the sixties which quickly turned into militant groups demanding rights and simply causing more grief then good. It know for a fact that no one who will read this is in fact a racist, whether it be prejudice against African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians , Native-Americans or any other ethnic background I may have left out.
Contrary to popular belief, slavery was not begun in Europe in the XV century. It began in ancient Babylonia were they enslaved their neighbours for lack of a work force. It continued with all of the ancient empires of the past until landing in Rome. When the Roman Empire fell by the hands of the Germanic tribes of the East, they believed that slavery was an evil practice so decided to abolish it all trough out Europe. Which was later replaced by the feudal system which more or less the same but without the chains or beatings. But with the discovery of America the work force in Europe was exhausted so the only hope of sustaining an economy in the new world was enslaving the Natives.
The enslavement of Blacks all began with the Catholic Church trying to avoid the torture of Native Americans that suggested enslaving the inhuman Blacks of Africa. They were seen at the time as mere animals, and nothing was thought of it.
I for my own part do not feel resentment towards my forefathers for having reissued slavery to the world. The truth is, American economy would have never sustained without slavery and the American continent would be very different today. It would look a lot more like Eastern Europe were poverty is in great numbers and there is no chance of it changing for the better.
I personally admit, I am in fact prejudice on a certain level against blacks. I think the worst crime of my European ancestors wasn’t enslaving the Blacks, but bringing them to America, thus ruining the newly discovered land. I don’t have any thing against a Black person; I surely have no desires to hurt or kill a person based on the colour of their skin, but I am the first to admit I don’t like seeing a Hispanic person (Seeing how I am in fact of Spanish descent making me Hispanic) with a black person. (Or with a white person) I think it’s wrong and should never happen. I know it sounds bigot from my part but they are my feelings in respect to inter-racial couples. I understand it may sound hypocritical seeing that I for the most part I am attracted to white women and I apologize if I have offended you by my comments.
The truth is racism WILL never end. Not tomorrow, not in a year, never. The sad truth is America will always be marked by racism.
