And no, it’s not to see a nude CGI Angelina. Pervs.
Those who pony up ten bucks will get to see the new trailer for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming monster movie, Cloverfield. For a blurry glimpse of what that will entail, just click play…

I’m just glad to see they didn’t give away all the secrets and intrigue in the trailer. I know it’s what the majority of people want, cause they are stupid, but I like a trailer that just teases me, not one that gives away every plot twist and such such so that the movie is ruined.

#3. I’m sorry when I have to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house to take my lady to the movies I want to know what the movie is going to be about. I’m not talking about spoilers, or any of that crap. But is it a Godzilla like flick? Is it War of the Worlds (Remake #4) Is it Nightmare the 13th Michael Myer’s Saw?

I’m surprised you or Justin hasn’t posted anything about Yvonne Strahovski. She’s the smokin hot co-star of the new show Chuck. The show is worth watching purely for her (although I like the show itself as well). I’d say she’s the hottest girl on TV right now (which says a lot when you’ve got Hayden on there).
Oh, and Cloverfield looks freakin sweet. Can’t wait for the HD release of this trailer.

“I’m surprised you or Justin hasn’t posted anything about Yvonne Strahovski.”
Yeah, what’s up with that, Justin? She’s one of the prettiest and tastiest girls on tv right now.
This Cloverfield preview reminds me of Blair Witch Project. I just hope that the acting in it is better than those guys in BWP. They sucked ass, and weren’t even believable as normal people.

This looks really well produced, and quite frightening in that it appears to eschew formulaic, mainstream creature features. It seems to have three sources of inspiration:
i) The paranoia of Lost
ii) The documentary style of The Blair Witch Project
iii) The mass public horror evoked by the September 11th Attacks, especially with it being on the streets of New York.
I’m a little concerned with all the “army men” at the end, though; that brought back unpleasant memories of blockbuster crap like Godzilla, and entire Apache squadrons inexplicably crashing into skyscrapers. Hopefully Abrams will maintain his own style.

Oh, and one more thing – Is “Cloverfield” supposed to be the title of the monster?
Because regardless of how many million people it kills, and how much of the Eastern seaboard it destroys, it’s never going to be cool with a sissy name like that!
They should have given it a more demonic name, either something from D&D or a patriarch from the Old Testament. They always sound scary:
Nebuchadnezzar – see, that sounds generally hideous.
Balorr – Again, scary and foreign.
Or they could have just said what they really meant:
Osama Bin Laden – Wow, I just crapped myself.
But CLOVERFIELD? I’ve seen POKEMON with scarier names than that…

Movies are cheap, where the hell are you going where its 10 bucks. Its $5-6 with student ID here, plus popcorn and you are looking at 8 bucks for movie and food.
#24 | Comment by Adam — November 18, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
$5-6????? Sure if you live in Paduca – NY City, $10 is what it costs

#24 – are you a student in bumfuck, montana? sure, i guess movies are cheap…relative to other forms of entertainment (concerts, sports, etc.)
here in columbia, sc (not a huge metropolis) evening movies cost at least $8.50, so i rounded up based on that. and if you get popcorn and a drink here, prepare to double your expenditure, as that seems to be where the theaters REALLY make their money. popping corn and soda syrup/CO2 are two of the cheapest things you could buy wholesale, i’d love to see the profit margins given the absurdly high prices they charge for those two items.
#28 | Comment by AngelBaby — November 18, 2007 @ 11:20 pm
I used to work for a movie theater and almost all the money they get from ticket sales goes back to the Studio. Popcorn and drinks *is* where they make the majority of their money. The percentage of how much goes back to the studio decreases the longer they play the movie.
#29 | Comment by Magister — November 19, 2007 @ 3:17 am
here in NC, the movies cost $45 a ticket and you have to sell a kidney to get popcorn.
It doesn’t have to be your kidney though.
And you can get M&Ms if you don’t like popcorn.
#30 | Comment by DisconcertedGeorge — November 19, 2007 @ 4:23 am
I haven’t been to the movies for under $100 in a while. I have to get a babysitter ($40), then I have to pay for tickets ($9.50 x 2), popcorn ($7 x 2), drinks ($4 x 2). Toss in a dinner tab, since you have to go to dinner before a movie, and it’s well over $100. Therefore, it takes one WHALE of a movie to get my but out the door to see it. And this ain’t it. That shaky camera would make me want to barf within the first 10 minutes.
Definately a rental.
