a few weeks ago i helped do a little iddy bit of design work on an xbox related wall paper thing (i didn’t make it, just helped some), and now it’s in an xbox related wallpaper contest thing, and i’m going to be so crushed if it doesn’t win 🙁 i have a very vested interest in it winning because my pride is on the line, people. anyway if you have a minute to waste, i’d really appreciate your vote :))

kvl, it’s because your ascii needs a fixed-width font to show up properly and this page doesn’t use a fixed-width font as its default. i’d suggest using the PRE tag to solve the problem, but i dont think HTML is allowed in replies? test ? meh

i know they haven’t begun charging say a monthly fee or anything yet, and that it’s "free" to play–but they DO want money. so much so that they are now offering up items which take FOREVER to EARN in-game though collection of "gold" for a minimal price in US dollars. that means the gold hammer i worked forever to achieve is now worth a few measly dollars and *anyone* who wants one can just buy it by entering a credit card number. meanwhile i wasted like weeks of my life "WORKING" for it, when it now isn’t worth all that work–it’s only worth a couple dollars. it makes the items non-exclusive, ‘cheapened,’ easy-to-obtain, and therefore strips the game of its PURPOSE (for me) which was to EARN avatar upgrades. now that playing for upgrades is pointless (because it is so easy to obtain them by other means, including just purchasing them-which i see as a sellout, personally), and even beginners can purchase a badass avatar easily, i don’t see the point in continuing to play. it WAS fun, and i DID enjoy it–but i have too much else going on and it wasn’t the sort of recreational fun i’d pursue without having that added incentive of an in-game goal (upgrading the avatar).
i’m glad you guys enjoy it though 🙂 maybe i’ll pop in and play a game from time to time just for shits and giggles, but as it stands.. now that they want $ bad enough to make all my previous game time worthless, i’m a little bitter and i don’t feel like ‘wasting’ time playing anymore 🙁

of course it’s a biased way to WANT to win a contest. to make what is supposed to be a contest based on "talent" and skew it into a popularity contest. however, PERSONALLY, regardless of having a vested interest in the wallpaper i was promoting, i still feel it was the BEST of those selections. had i been a random passer-by, not knowing who made the paper or any of the details about it, i still would have voted for it. therefore i really have no moral qualms with promoting it and thinking it deserved to win. of course that is my personal opinion.
the catch here is that if YOU think it isn’t the best wallpaper, no one is making YOU vote for it. really the link was just put out there to draw people to the site in HOPES that they would agree that the wallpaper i wanted to win was the best, and then vote for it accordingly. and if anyone decided that they should go vote for the wallpaper because *i* recommended it, and not because they liked it best (and normally would have voted for a different wallpaper, given the opportunity, had i not suggested the one i did).. well, that was their prerogative. i still appreciate all votes, both sincere and "biased."
it is always a little annoying and frustrating to see a contest turn from its intended purpose into a popularity contest, no doubt. actually i would not have been cheerleading for the wallpaper at all had i felt that the contest was fair to begin with. consider my promotion a leveling of the playing field, and keep in mind no one was holding a gun to anyone’s temple. had the contest been completely FAIR (and no cheerleading or anything like that had been done on anyone’s behalf), i still honestly believe the wallpaper i chose to promote would have won.
p.s. *i* did not make the wallpaper (just helped with a tiny bit of its production), so it’s not my talent we need call into question. i do not HAVE the talent to make a wallpaper as quality as that one. all else being equal, it was probably made by the most talented 3D person of the group that submitted any wallpapers.
