In theaters June 10th. In my DVD player June 6th. Lolz.
Actually it’s not really that big a deal me getting the movie this ‘early’. I’m sure at least some of you have already downloaded it. This flick’s been out in France since 2003 (as Haute Tension) but only now is it getting an official US release. It’s already out on DVD in HK and Korea. Though i’m dubious of the quality of the subs on those DVDs. And yes, if you’re wondering, those are bootlegged versions. I mean come on almost everything that comes out of HK and Korea is bootlegged. Or pirated as some would say. Though i’m curious to know if there’s actually an official R2 DVD out there. Has to be, but i haven’t really taken the time to run it by Google. But no biggie. I’m sure Lions Gate will come out with an unrated R1 DVD somewhere down the line.
Preferably with the original language intact.
Ya, i wouldn’t count myself lucky though with the bootleg that i got. BECAUSE IT’S DUBBED (and i fucking hate dubs). Just like the version most of you are going to see on June 10th. And not only that, i have this sneaking feeling that this is the R rated cut that i have in my hands and not the original NC 17 French cut. But what the hell. At least it hasn’t been completely pussified down to PG 13 or anything. And according to the MPAA, it still has “GRAPHIC BLOODY KILLINGS, TERROR, SEXUAL CONTENT AND LANGUAGE”. So it can’t be all that bad.
So yes, fuck that House of Wax bullshit and go see Haute Tension if you have a chance.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS ABOUT THE ENDING FOLLOW:
Wow. This movie is gory. Blood just flows throughout this flick. And believe me when i say this movie has lots of high tension. A very edge of your seat flick if you allow it to be. The first 3/4 of the movie = top notch. But the last 1/4… well, it’ll either make it or break it for some of you. I guess there is an explanation for it all and i hope to God that it’s in the eventual DVD commentary to come (THERE’D BETTER BE ONE) but yeah, this might be one of those ‘it’ll probably make more sense after two viewings’ movies.
Some quips from the Bloody Disgusting review of the R rated cut:
“I’d even go so far as to say that this film might leave casual horror fans a bit, well, fucked-up.”
“As for the gore, there is a LOT left to be amazed at – I can tell where they snipped a bit here and there in 2 of the scenes, but it’s still incredibly intense and waaaaaaaaaay more over-the-top than “House of 1000 Corpses”, “Cabin Fever”, or any of the other so-called “return to hardcore horror” steamers that have hit screens in recent years.”

It’s good stuff. Especially the first 3/4. Recommended. Even though the ending might rub some of you the wrong way.
Oh and i just did some Googling. There actually is an official R2 DVD out there (not surprising really, this movie has been out for quite a long while now). It’s called Switchblade Romance in the UK. What a shitty title, should’ve stuck with Haute Tension. Wankers.
Here’s a page with more (spoiler-less if you wish) info on the uncut R2 version. And it looks like the R2 DVD does indeed have a commentary track (yay!). So i guess things are looking good for the R1 release. Unless of course Lions Gate drops the ball. Fucking record a new one or put the existing one on there please.

hmm. upon further inspection, it seems that you won’t be getting a dubbed version in theaters on june 10th. but somehow my dvd is! i think this might be the bastard korean bootleg (with bastard cuts) talked about over here.
apparently the HK version is the one to get. no cuts AND no dubs. still not too sure about the subs on that one though. subs can be a hit or miss sometimes with these azn releases. bootleg or not. mmm. yes. this sucks. i want the HK dvd now. oh well. at least i have chicken.

and i’m about 3/4 into high tension now. i guess the cuts aren’t really all that noticable. it’s still gory as hell. good date movie!
oh and i like how lion’s gate is supporting the PSP with the PSP formatted trailer on their official site.

OMG upon even FURTHER inspection, it seems that you guys WILL be getting a dubbed version in theaters (i just downloaded the PSP trailer and its dubbed. the trailer i saw before this had no dialogue bits).

I saw a sneak preview in the theater about two weeks ago. The movie was mixed with subs and dubs, kind of strange. I don’t know how much it got sensored, but it was funny listening some girls in the back of the theater screaming at all of the “scary parts”, everyone laughted at them!!

It’s dubbed and not dubbed at the same time. They dubbed some lines to American but left some French. The plot now goes something like the main chick is trying to learn English so speaks English in certain circumstances but French in others.

i think they did a new dub for the US theatrical release because the dub on my DVD is all 100% english. except for when they start singing that one french(?) song in the car. other than that, the dvd i have is all dub and no subs.
there was nothing about anybody wanting to learn english on my dvd. but the plot does have them sort of get away to the countryside to do some studying (since it’s quieter or something – according to the dub anyway).
i guess they must’ve changed a few lines of dialogue here and there for the subs.
