It’s like 1994 all over again with US senators trying to ban videogames, except instead of Night Trap and Mortal Kombat being the target, this time it’s 25 to Life. And the media’s absolutely going nuts over this whole thing.
By the way, you can stop reading now because this is all going to be heavy shit and there’s no boobies in this post. So move along if you’re not interested and if you got nothing good to say, don’t say it at all.
Seriously, don’t these people have anything else better to do than to go after videogames? And by these people, of course, i mean the US government. They’ve already gone after porn (AND SUCCEEDED. Goodbye ratemyboobies.com…) and now videogames? Again? This is like what? The third time now?
Oh and lump the media in with the government too for actually buying into all this crap and making a big deal out of nothing. Again. Anybody watch CNBC the other day? The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch? Well even if you didn’t, take a look at this for what happened behind the scenes. Dispicable.
Then go read this blog entry by Brooks Brown about what he thinks about violence in videogames. Don’t recognize the name? Well you should. He only tipped off the cops about Eric Harris building bombs and threatening to kill him. Only for them to ignore his report. And you know what happened after that. I’ll spell it out for you.. C.O.L.U.M.B.I.N.E. And what was partially to blame because of it? Videogames. Stupid.
If anything, the US government should go after Jessica Chobot to stop her from writing any more of her useless drivel on fucking IGN.
Ya, it sucks. Who knows how this one will turn out. Maybe they’ll actually win this time and pass some stupid law that restricts videogame content in some way. They’ve already won their little battle with the pr0n industry. With their stupid 2257 act. I was looking for this one fat chick on dirtylatinamaids.com to jerk it off to the other day, only to see her video gone! And because of what? Fucking 2257! Thank goodness they found some loophole or something so now they can put her video back up. I miss that fat bitch.
It almost seems communist. But not quite. The current US government, in my opinion, seems to be moving more and more in the direction of facism, not communism. Often when we think of communism, we think of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, which means under Stalin and those after him. Stalin ruined the Soviet Union and turned it into a facist dictatorship, which was very very far from Lenin and Marx’s dreams of a government that treats everyone equally.
In my opinion, the US government is becoming something that is very scary. Laws like 2257 that legislate morality and The Patriot Act that erode privacy are becoming common place. Americans seem more willing than ever to trade civil liberties for the illusion of safety. For me the illusion of security is not worth anywhere close to my right to say what i want, watch what i want and do what i want in the privacy of my home. And that includes looking at porn and playing violent videogames!! Of course, i’m not American so none of this really applies to me LOLLLL. But it probably does to you so if you want to look at porn and play a videogame where you can kill cops, then you should fight! for your right! to paaaaartttttttyyyy! Or something. Yeah.
Then again what the hell do i know.
From ratemyboobies.com:
CENSORED BY US GOVERNMENT
18 USC 2257The government is mandating that we meet certain bookkeeping requirements, ones impossible to meet for this site. Never mind that those requirements do not actually gain the public anything. This is the strongest attack on free speech since the passage of the CDA, and oddly, the media seems to have hardly noticed. The penalty for not abiding by these bookkeeping requirements is five years prison.
The regulations were promulgated by Alberto Gonzales, US Attorney General appointed by George Bush. If you voted for Bush, this is your fault. If you think this country is free, you are sadly mistaken. No nation has freedom when it is run by religious zealots.
Retards. All of them.

I saw that episode of Deutsch by chance and walked away from it, probably around the same time Davison did, because I was getting tired of yelling, “You are a fucking tool!” at my television. I was really hoping to hear directly from Senator Schumer, whose press release I marked up in a post on my page (shameless plug):
http://umgawa.blogspot.com/2005/06/liberi-fatali.html
And, yes, with regard to the right to play videogames and watch porn on the internet, the most important thing that’s happened this week is the retirement of Sandra Day O’Connor, because the Regime is going to try and replace her with someone more conservative, along the lines of Antonin Scalia or Clarence “Long Dong Silver” Thomas. Should the Democrats lose the fight in the Senate (which they probably will), the Supreme Court will be fucked up for the next forty years. The only people with any legal backing who are on our side in all of this are the ACLU, and a six-three conservative-liberal split on the court is never going to make a finding of fact on our side ever again.

Fucking politicians who think they know what’s good for all of us. They vote for this censoring crap during the day and at night they snort crack out whores’ asses. If we survived the GTA series, we can survive any other game. Let parents do their job and stop trying to sanitize all forms of media. Kids who go on killing rampages are fucked up well before they come in contact with violent videogames.
Miss Chobot is going to get her own show at G4TV.

Try discussing any of this with a diehard right-winger, and you soon realize what we’re all up against.
The age of the “conservatives” wanting less government involvement in our lives is over. It has been replaced by the rise of the social conservatives, a bunch of holier-than-thou control freaks that want the government (as long as THEY are in control, of course) to tell us exactly how to live.
They can all go to hell.

Conservatives like porn, violent movies, and violent video games just as much as liberals. So i doubt this will go too far.

Once this crap makes its way into the court system, we’ll see these fascist assholes defeated. Its all part of this pseudo-morality that has infected the country, NO you can’t look at porn. NO you can’t play cool games. YES we can go to other countries and kill people for no reason.
It all falls behind the new Media Policy of the Bush Junta. It started with Janet Jackson’s titty poppin out on Live TV, which the Radio industry paid for, not the TV industry. And it is trickling down into other forms of media.
It will take nothing less than a Supreme Court decision to right the wrongs of all of this Puritanical-fascist-pseudo morality. Fuck I hate the political climate right now.

Another consideration for that Supreme Court spot is noneother than Alberto Gonzales, the man who shut down ratemyboobies.com

So why did George Dubya get re-elected again? As if the US couldn’t get enough of his censor the world BS, he gets re-elected to have another run at destroying freedom. Hopefully Canada doesn’t get as corrupt as this any time soon.

#9 — because slightly more than half of the country is composed of fucking idiots.
“compassionate conservatism”, my arse.
still, the optimist in me clings to hope. look at canada. after years of “morality-themed” rhetoric from your equivalent of the religious right, you’ve got more youngfolk choosing to live together (in every sense of the word), rather than to instantly choose marriage as the first, final, and only option. add to that the recent nationwide approval of g-marriage in canuckland and spain (as well as previously in two other european countries). the world is changing — i believe for the better. america’s just really, really stubborn right now.
this too, shall pass.

BATTLE RAPER 2
#16 | Comment by Justin — July 3, 2005 @ 11:17 am
it seems the new theme of america is to further distance itself from the populus. its funny how in the middle of war in which thousands of people are getting killed and trillions wasted that we have to attack something like videogames, and the porn industry. i mean, how much must those two combined give to the economy? why would you want to rid yourself of two things that are almost guaranteed to make money? hell, even really shitty games somehow sell. if the government wants to censor anything they need to censor themselves, or figure out how to prevent the things that actually cause violence. i hope to god that nothing else comes up and that the people take back control of the government and tell people that it’s these damn religious fanatics obsessed with making everything “right” and “fair” who are fucking us over. cause let’s face it, who attacks homosexuals, who attacks violence in video games, who attacks movies? and who supports the war? who alienates those who are a different? that’s right, those religious right-wing bastards. things like this make me ashamed to call myself an american. for shame america, FOR SHAME!

Your intentions are noted, Justin, and you are right about the Soviets and thier control of the state, but Stalin and ect. didn’t move toward fascism, communism and fascism are and have always been very similar (despite interesting attempts by progressive highschool teachers at conveying otherwise, at least in my experience). This country (The United States) is veering head on into a totalitarian state, but unfortunately those who are driving it in that direction are the proverbial wolves in sheeps clothing. Would a truly right (as in conservative) minded person lobby for an increased government as provided by this administration? No. Would a truly right minded person lobby for increased taxes? No. Conservativism hinges unpon small government, light tax, and other such things that are not along the party lines of those who claim to be the right in this country. Narrow minded hypocrits, yes, conservatives, no. They’ll have to pry Battle Raper 2 from my cold dead hands.
#21 | Comment by Observant — July 3, 2005 @ 2:22 pm
Observant,
I have long made the saem claims you have. A ‘conservative’ and a ‘republican’ are arguing for LESS government in our lives. When did this concept of republican mean more laws, more sentances, more control?
The reason I’ve never considered myself a liberal or a democrat are because I oppose the idea of MORE government. I don’t want more social institutions, more work help programs, more mismanaged organizations.
It kills me that somehow concepts such as “liberal/democrat = for the people” and “republican/conservative = for corporate america” have been slipped into our national mindset.

smash –
It’s completely the Republicans’ fault this shift in government-control vs. individual freedom has happened.
When the GOP started courting the fundamental Christians, what they got in exchange is this wave of cultural conservatism… everything has to conform to standards more suited for the 1950s then today.
So now you got these dumbshits that want evolution taken out of schools, government controls over all media (including video games), and THEIR religion forced down the throats of our kids.
Whatever the Republicans once stood for, they now stand for the opposite.

“After taking over KÄÂbul, Taliban leaders began to institute an uncompromising regime. Their basic premise was to enforce a purist way of life based on their fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. They immediately created the Ministry for Ordering What Is Right and Forbidding What Is Wrong to impose and enforce their rules of conduct.
The rules of conduct eventually covered almost every aspect of social behavior by the population, even forbidding things such as clapping, kite flying, and squeaky shoes.
The Taliban banned music and dancing, shut down movie theaters and television stations, destroyed public works of art that depicted living beings, and forbade the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The Taliban religious police enforced the new rules and punished anyone found disobeying. They inflicted many of the punishments on the spot, usually ruthlessly, without offering the offender any sort of judicial hearing.”
oh, the irony.
#27 | Comment by DisconcertedGeorge — July 5, 2005 @ 11:06 pm
It killed so many porn sites, it’s fucking ridiculous.
“requiring all porn companies that reside in the United States and/or have their material on United States grounds or servers to have each porn star or amateur’s full real name, an address, and ways of communication with each and every porn star and amateur available for all to see. Furthermore, each company must post their address of headquarter and must have someone at that location at the minimum of 20 hours a week for police, or agents to view all record”
fucking retarded.
#28 | Comment by heineken — July 6, 2005 @ 12:15 am
