So i finally got the rest of my stuff home from the US yesterday. Had 3 boxes of DVDs, college books and videogames sent over via mail courtesy of old man Smash. It sure took its sweet time. He’s still got like a bunch of DVDs that he’s borrowing (you really need to watch Wonderfalls) and also that personally autographed issue of Maxim that i had Mandy Amano send to him. Considering how long it took for those 3 boxes to get here (they were sent out on April 25th i think), the rest of the DVDs and that magazine will probably get here like by Christmas time by the time Smash is done with them all.

Anyhow, i think i’m going to hook up the old Dreamcast. And maybe the N64. Been a long while since i turned on my Dreamcast. Not since… 2001? Actually i did plug it in once last year while i was still in Michigan. Attempted to play Quake III Arena but i just couldn’t get used to playing with the Dreamcast controller anymore. Despite it being almost exactly like an Xbox controller (Yep, Microsoft pretty much stole the design. Fact). It just felt weird and i couldn’t control the game for shit.

I’ve forgotten how many Dreamcast games i actually own. Looking forward to playing some of the old classics. Like Daytona USA. Remember the theme music? Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaa! Let’s go away! Let’s go away! Sega, and their shitty arcade music. They made great playing games though. Shame the Dreamcast had to die. I blame Sony.

An Ode to the Dreamcast.

Dreamcast, oh Dreamcast, my little white box
You bring me such happiness and joy
And you match the color of my socks
In the morning when i wake
You are there, ready to play
In the evening when i sleep
You are dim and mostly grey
I plug you in and turn you on
Your disk spins ’round and ’round
I grab the controller and flick the buttons
I love when you make the WHIRR sound
The games i play lighten my soul
They take me away from tiresome days
I feel much better, i feel so good
My Dreamcast makes me feel such ways
I sometimes get so lost in playing
That i could use a maid
But i will stay loyal to you my Dreamcast
Because i know even without you i still won’t get laid

  9. I love my Dreamcast. I’ve grown very addicted to collecting games for the system. I still remember their old commericals, with all the characters standing around talking to each other. Not as good as this, but that was Sega’s A game.
Justin, do you have maracas for your Samba de Amigo?

  12. so I was wondering whatever happened to Mandy and Googled her, Maxim beats Justin to first result now, bah.

Also noticed that she now has her own website and in some of those pics she doesn’t look good at all. One of them looks like she just woke up from a mortuary slab.

  15. Highly conincidental, I just considered picking a dreamcast up on ebay not five minutes ago. The only thing I really want to play though, is rez. Absolutely the coolest, most relaxing, visually, aurally, kinesthetically pleasing game ever made. When you finished a level, your hands and arms still tingled from the rythmic onslaught that is the tremor pack.

I split the cost of a dreamcast with my roommate several years ago and when he moved out I let him take it. Quite depressing.

  16. I had a dreamcast for about 2 months. It made some crazy loud noise when I turned it on.

It’s beautiful, like goldfish in tomato soup!

  17. i have rez for ps2. good game!

and yeah, i had two sets of maracas for samba de amigo. so much fun. played the game for like hours the first time i got it.

of course, the next day, my arms felt like they were going to fall off.

  18. I have to agree with the Virtua Tennis and NBA 2K1 being damn good games. Sadly I got into the Dreamcast just as it was about to die so I didn’t get too many games for it, and ones I want to play are hard to find.

  19. that is awesome. it explains the time zone.

anyway, i wouldn’t mind having a dreamcast. but what i’d *really* like would be to find my old game gear. that thing was off the hook. game boy advance can suk it!

  20. wow. playing some of these old dreamcast games is painful. daytona USA 2001 plays like SHIT.

WWF royal rumble looks like a PS1 game. and virtua tennis 2k2, doesn’t hold up well against the test of time. the only game i could stomach for more than 3 minutes was jet grind radio. i LOVE the music in that game.

    sweet soul brother!

  22. The worst thing about the Dreamcast was that the wire on the controller comes out of the wrong end on the controller. The wire should NEVER come out of the controller on the side facing you. The thing was always bent, and it shortened the controller wire by about a foot.

Who the hell makes a controller like that? So not cool.

  23. my favorite game ever for the dreamcast was san francisco rush 2049. me and my roommates played that game to DEATH. the 4 player battle mode was AWESOME.

  24. I played Dr. Mario on Dreamcast on Wednsday; it was fun.

I stuck a finger in a meat slicer on Thursday; it was not fun. Nor were stiches or the fact that I have to use my ring finger to pull the right trigger on Xbox. I can’t play PS2 or GameCube.

    🙁

  25. San Francisco Rush 2049 was an awesome game. Me and my friend would constantly try and get the highest score for an individual stunt. Good times.

  29. I just finished watching the Wonderfall series a little while ago. True Story. Pretty good, the main character’s brother that was an atheist theologist grad student was pretty pimp.

    that is all.
