Developments in TV land

The WB just canceled 7th Heaven! NOOOOOOO! I guess we won’t be seeing Mackie grow up to be a slut like her brother Simon is on the show. They cancelled it because it was getting to be too expensive to keep making more episodes. 7th Heaven ends its run after 10 seasons.

In other news, FOX just cancelled Arrested Development. Not that i care because i don’t watch the show but i know it’s got somewhat of a diehard fanbase. Another case of a critically acclaimed show that nobody watched. Arrested Development ends its run after 2 and half disappointingly low rated seasons.

But anyway, how about this season’s Lost eh? Solid first season… second season… ehhhh…. i dunno. Jury’s still out. Kinda hard to predict where everything’s going since the writers are just pretty much making things up as they go along (the DVD said so). But yeah, no more 3 week hiatuses please. It’s bad enough that they advance the plot JUST A LITTLE BIT in each episode and that we have to wait a week between each new little smidgeon of info, adding hiatuses into the mix just makes it worse. This is why i much prefer watching TV on DVD. All the plot in one whole sitting (if you can stomach it).

I once watched the entire second season of 24 in one day (almost real time!). It was like watching a 24 hour movie. And oh hey, season 5 of 24 this January. Here’s the trailer if you missed it.

So what’s been grabbing you guys’ attention in TV land lately?

  1. Arrested Development got canceled? Ah well, I guess it was bound to happen at one point…

    Oh, and first

  2. Fuck everyone. Everyone should have been supporting Arrested Development, the best show (that was) on tv.

  3. Hopefully Mac will still go bad girl.

I did the same thing with the first season of 24. Started at 12 am, feel asleep for a couple hours in the afternoon but it worked out since its not “real time” w/o commercials.

  4. I can honestly say Arrested Development is the ONLY show I’ve ever seen that did not have one singular crap episode. Not one. Too bad it’s going off the air while fucktard sitcoms like According to Jim (w/Jim Belushi) and The King of Queens are still on.

Like Zahid said, it’s bound to happen, but still sad nonetheless. Maybe some other network like HBO will pick it up.

As for Lost, if they keep up this pace with the plot(25% plot; 75% flashback), they’re going to lose a lot of viewers. Look at Twin Peaks, people don’t have long attention spans and if your story stops making sense, they’re going to abandon your show. While it’s a great show so far, it’s just so frustrating to watch sometimes.

  7. Justin,

Give Arrested Development a try. You won’t be disappointed. This is one of the few times when a show actually lives up to its critical hype and Golden Globe award. Everybody should have watched it, dammit! Pretty much the Anti-Sitcom if ever there was one.

#5 – I’ve gotta give props to Fox for sticking with it for this long. I would have thought it would have been cancelled after half a season.

#6 – Don’t blame Fox, blame the American viewing public. For Joe Six Pack, anything without a laugh track is just not funny.

  10. You can’t blame Fox; they’re a business, and if nobody is watching the show, they have to cancel it. I am pissed, however, that they moved it to mondays, and put that shitty “War at Home” show on instead.

  12. Rumors abound that they could be shopping the show to other networks rather than just canceling. HBO, FX, & NBC are the big ones coming up, with NBC being a pretty long-shot. But imagine on HBO, that’d be six more minutes of awesome each episode. Or on NBC they could have the best comedy line-up ever on Tuesday nights with Arrested Development, Scrubs, Office, & My Name is Earl.

  13. Did any of you guys watch Primetime on ABC a couple of nights ago? They were reporting on the guy who called fast food restaurants impersonating a cop and made managers strip search teenage female employees. They show security camera footage (censored, boo!) of a cute girl getting strip searched by a female manager. Not only that but the guy on the phone talked the manager into bringing her fiancee to check on the girl while she managing the restautrant. The creepy fiancee really took advantage of the situation. He took the apron that the girl was using to cover her naked body and made her bent over, show her body, do exercises nude. He even spanked her for a while and made her blow him at the end. They showed all this footage on TV. During the interviews the manager said that she performed the strip search because the “cop” on the phone told her to and the girl said he allowed all that to happen because her parents taught her to obey authority figures. The guy on the phone, the manager and her ex-fiancee (she dumped him after finding out about the blow job) are facing criminal charges.

LOL. Is unbelievable how stupid and gulible some people can be.

  17. Lost sucks guys.

They’re just making it up as they go along!

They won’t ever be able to make the explanations work.

  23. My favorite shows are Lost (obviously), Veronica Mars, Arrested Development, Family Guy, and Prison Break.

I have to admit that this season of Lost isn’t as good as last season. It feels like the writers are trying to draw out the show for as long as possible. It was ok to have episodes that were mostly back story last season because he audience was being introduced to the characters. Now that people are pretty familiar with most of the characters, having flashbacks that add little to the story just seems like a way to fill time. I have no idea how Invasion hasn’t been canceled because almost nothing happens in every single episode of Invasion besides family stuff.

This season of Veronica Mars has been at least as good as last season, plus Kristen Bell is just plain awesome.

Arrested Development was my favorite show on TV and I will cry the rest of the weekend now that it’s gone. Justin, you would have liked the episodes this last Monday because Gob said that they should do like in a Japanese movie and make a model of a bunch of houses outside the window so they would look life size if you squint really hard. Then he said, “God knows they’re squinters.” Everyone loves azn jokes.

Why has no one else mentioned Prison Break? I was worried when I saw hacktastic director Brett Ratner’s name attached to the premiere, but the show has been pretty good so far. Of course the premise is far fetched and so are some of the plot twists, but it’s been pretty entertaining.

  24. I’m into Prison Break. That’s been a nice holdover til 24 gets back. I’ve got some questions, though. What the hell happens next season? New actors? New prison? WHAT THE HELL?

  25. reunion is pretty bad. way too overdramatic. why its not cancelled yet i have no idea.

    #25 | Comment by Justin — November 13, 2005 @ 4:48 am

  26. #24, I have no idea how they could pull off a second season of Prison Break. I really hope they just make one awesome season instead of a few seasons that get progressively worse. This will never happen though. Every network has to make new seasons of hit shows until the ratings drop below a certain threshold, and at that time they cancel the show. I’ve heard that once 24 starts in January, Fox is delaying the last few episodes of the Prison Break until May. I hope that is wrong because it’s an incredibly dumb idea. I can’t wait until fugitive Jack Bauer gets to put the lives of everyone he knows in danger so that he can save the country.

  27. Mackie will ALWAYS be my fave young slut. She’ll rebound into a show of her own, films, music. Showing us that perfect body that she needs to give to all the big cocks she can find. I smell another self-shot internet spread. Bring it on, sexy Mackie!!!!

  28. Starting Over is easily the funniest show on TV. Has anyone seen this?

    #28 | Comment by Guy — November 13, 2005 @ 6:33 am

  29. #26 it’s been speculated that Arrested Development’s order was reduced and they’re not on the mid-season schedule so that when American Idol comes back they can move Prison Break into Arrested Development’s spot, as they’re also canceling the show after Arrested Development. I’ve never seen Prison Break and know nothing about it, but if it had anything to do with the demise of Arrested Development, I hate that motherfucking bastard show.

    #29 | Comment by SheepDog — November 13, 2005 @ 6:58 am

  30. Lost – anyone who watched “Alias” knows that JJ Abrams is the king of jerking viewers around. I loved the first season of “Lost”, but I don’t expect it to ever go anywhere.

I agree that “Veronica Mars” has had an excellent 2nd season. “Grey’s Anatomy” is one of my favorites this year, too.

7th Heaven – Haylie Duff kills off another show. Okay, it’s probably a little past its prime, but it means no more Mac. Which means, I won’t have an answer to next year’s “Who are you fapping it to” question. 😉

Arrested Development – It’s in a similar vein as “Scrubs”. People either get the joke or they don’t. And neither show has done well with a broad audience.

  31. American Dad!

NBC could resurrect Must See Thursday around Arrested Development. Imagine, a block of good shows!

    #31 | Comment by tool — November 13, 2005 @ 8:50 am

  32. My Name is Earl (great casting, great writing) and the Office (same as above) are both great shows. but I don’t think the Office will last, since Earl viewers don’t stick around. They probably have to turn somewhere else or they go into laughtrack withdrawal.

Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls continue to be my must-see hour-long shows. VM got pretty interesting right from the beginning, and the Rory/Lorelei feud on GG has shaken things up a bunch. Throw in the fact that a Gilmore mother-daughter tag team would send me into a coma of ecstacy within seconds, and I can’t miss an episode.

Throw in the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, and I’m good.

  37. Fuck lost.

If I wanted to watch something promising but just wank around with more “lead nowhere” tricks and even more and more loops of BS, I’d watch Twin Peaks or *gasp* X Files.

Shoot Jack then maybe I’d care.

Actually Shoot Jack would work on Lost or 24.

Agent Bauer got more death evading saving throws than Keyser Soze….. bitch.

  38. Arrested Development was alright, but I won’t miss it overly much. I dislike Fox much more for cancelling Wonderfalls and Firefly. Those were two great shows. Compared to them, Arrested Development is mediocre.
