Bug fixing!

Okay so i’ve made the site all pretty again (like black lingerie with pink lace edging apparently) and while it looks all fine and sexy in Firefox on my Mac, it sort of looks like crap in IE on a PC, with quite a few broken bits and pieces here and there.

Two things that i’ve noticed are:

1. My own comments aren’t showing up in the comments. It just comes up blank.
2. Every comment is comment #1. Makes it look like everybody is first (please resist the temptation to call “First!” in every comment though, because once this is fixed, you’ll only look like a tool)

Lemme know if you find anything that looks like it doesn’t belong there.

I’ll try to get it all fixed. Even though everything looks fine when i’m looking at the site on my Mac.

Moral of the story: Mac > PC

Fact.

My girlfriend probably doesn’t think so though. But what do girls know!

  3. Alright Justin, tell us about the girlfriend already. You keep dropping the fact that you have a girlfriend into totally unrelated posts. Either give us naked pics of her or drop it. Don’t you know what this site is all about?

  4. i’m on a PC at work at the moment, running windows 2000 professional on IE 6.0.2800.1106.

i probably won’t be able to see this comment i’m making after i post it. and everyone will probably still be #1 even though they’re supposed to be #3, #4, #5 et al.

at least from where i’m sitting.

  5. ^^^

Well said my man. Hopefully that wasn’t a naked pic you just posted, cause no one can see it.

    First! And I’m a Tool!!

Just kidding. Love the site re-design.

I’m still getting #1’s when viewing the comments in Safari, but it reads fine in Firefox. And I’m on a Mac, running 10.4.7.

  9. Macs are tops, especially the Mac Pro that just came out today, with top notch Intel Xeon chips.

This site looks fine to me, and I’m using an ancient G4 running 10.3.9 using Netscape 7.2. Yes, I know, I need to upgrade…..need funds…..

  10. I use IE because FF is a goddamn memory hog. I have plenty, sure, but it’s the principle of the matter.

and speaking of Macs owning PCs, the new Mac Pro that was unveiled today is pretty friggin cool. it would make a killer game rig with the 16 gigs of ram full-up and that forthcoming Cider app if it runs games like they hope it will. I’d love to buy one, but 2.5k is too rich for my blood.

and the site looks good, I can’t really see any other bugs ‘cept the ones you already mentioned.

    eighth!

  11. Meh, you can do anything on a pc you can on a mac, just a mac user might not see it that way seeing as you can’t just hop on a pc and use the default software packaged with it and expect to get anything but shit results…
And the same though came to my mind as #2, I mean henestly, I thought the only person that still used IE was my grandmother and school librarian.

  13. The site looks great on FF. The comment numbering bug is also present when viewed with Opera 8.51 (that’s what I have installed here). It might be ok in the newest version, but I don’t feel like upgrading it at the moment.

  15. things with the apple logo on them make me weak in the knees.

and i still have the comment numbering problem viewing the site in safari 2.0.4 running mac os x 10.4.7, tho it seems to be fine in firefox 2.0b1. 🙁

  16. I’m looking at the site right now with Konqueror (Safari still uses KHTML, neh? Or is that ancient history?) on a FreeBSD box and it’s fine. Looks more or less exactly like my non-Adblock’d SeaMonkey 1.0.2 on Win32, though KDE 3.5 > Luna.

And is it me, or is the “Waugh!” at the top of the page the exact same as the death cry sometimes uttered by an Imperial in Elder Scrolls III?

  27. # 16 … with Konqueror (Safari still uses KHTML, neh? …

Safari uses Webkit, which is their own special version of KHTML same as it ever was
Now available for Windows too in a browser called Swift

    Nooooo!

  30. My girlfriend totally agrees that you shouldn’t fix the first post bug.

My girlfriend, whom I am dating, also thinks that you should not only not fix your comments so that they appear for IE users, but she, my girlfriend, also thinks that you should apply this glitch to the entire site, such that the site doesn’t appear period of IE users.

She, my girlfriend, also suggests that maybe make this page make internet explorer fucking crash.

She thinks that will maybe give the name “Don’t link this” more power. She, this girl I’m dating, thinks that it has the virtue of not only being a name, but a true warning.

That’s what my girlfriend thinks, anyways. I’m dating her.

  31. You probably know this already; but it looks like your comments aren’t being see due to the instances of “author_comment” in the code for the style in the dd and dt lines. I see some background colors shown in the style declarations; but maybe a foreground color needs to be set as well to fix in IE.

  36. Surely this problem you’re having only actually confirms that:

Everything in the world > IE specifically

A fact that no one’s going to disagree with unless they’ve totally lost their mind. I’m sure someone could find a single shitty Mac application then use that to say that Macs are all shite, but that would be as bogus a claim as “IE sucks, so PCs must suck”. I mean Word is pretty annoying but it’s available for OSX and Windows, does that mean Linux actually wins overall or something?
