  8. Listen you asshole. I am not one prone to harsh language but you are exactly that. I dont know who you are or where your from and quite frankly I dont want to know. But here in The United States even porn lovers have pride. Alright we may be different but there are two things that make us the same. The love of nakedness and pride. So you can go live in whatever hole you crawled out of and leave us be. Justin way to go. And dont worry no one will ever forget. I am so frustrated I have nothing left to say. I believe everyone is entitled to an opinion but h.l. mencken I think you should take yours and shove it becuase I dont want to read your filth anymore. 11. I think jingoism has been misidentifed here – mourning an attack in which thousands of people died and having pride in your country isn’t jingoism. Thinking critically is the key, Mr./Ms. Mencken, so something like blindly accepting the U.S. government’s reasons for, say, attacking Iraq would be blind stupid patriotism. As much as you seem to hate it when people do something only because others do (and i am with you on that one), i’d hope that you’d also see the error in deciding to hate something only because everyone else does it/likes it…

  16. Wow now we need pictures on web pages telling people that we are not going to soon forget 9/11. Where was this patriotism prior to Sep 12? Now we have to hate every one who doesn’t believe in the exact same way we do by shoving 9/11 news songs, commercials, etc., down our sore blind patriotic throats. Its sad that such an event causes this false sense of unity and forces us to remember or else. I will be moving on while all of you have you tear soaked faces glowing by candle light.

  32. hey! stop fighting you morons!
Im going to tell you one thing!

Im NOT living in america but there is one thing i can say. I will never ever feel what the poeple felt on those moments of horror in those buildings. I will never ever feel what the people that got saved, and was one step to the death, really felt. Like to have a second chance. No people, i will never felt that. But i will also never ever criticize what the people did yesterday, either. Only Nazy people will criticize. all the nazy people is criticizing all of you americans. But they dont have or feeel a bit of sorrow for those people? I do. So if you are not living in america like Menckel or whatever wenless. If you wont say something constructive then please shut the fuck up your mouth!

What would have happened if you have buildings like those in your city??? and two planes crashes? put yourself in those people that were jumping to save they lives but they couldnt?? You assholes! If you would have survived then i bet every year you would be celebrating that you are alive again.

Assholes! i hate that. I dont live in the US but i put myself in the shoes of those people!Dont put yourself in the government side, but in the peoples side. Have a bit of compation for those people. think on the people that is suffering and they didntnt have anything to deal with againts terror. Those people that were trying to bring the bread of the day. those kids that are parentless, those widows. Feel compation man!

I cant believe still in our society are people that behaves like troglodites. My god! we are in the year 2002. with thinking like that is like if we are going in the past 2002 years back in history.. be real and stop criticizing. I bet you guys are still playing with the little cars your parents bought you in the supermarket. assholes!

NO responsability in your minds. Grow up.

my god! out in the world there are real morons!
What can we expect of this assholes??

  33. I am compassionate. However, I went to a candle-light vigil earlier and was devastated by the insincerity and blind patriotism of those around me.

By the way, it is always charming to see the word troglodyte come up in a sea of words that are otherwise so grammatically corrupt.

    #33 | Comment by bofc — September 12, 2002 @ 3:02 am

  34. Stink, what would you like to know? My advice, in general, is:
    1.) Get good grades
2.) Do undergrad research (if possible, get your name on a paper or in the acknowledgments section)
    3.) Study for the GRE

If you do those things, you’ll get to go to an excellent grad school for free.

    #43 | Comment by fnfx2 — September 12, 2002 @ 6:28 am

  44. I went through the five-minute test again and deliberately answered all the questions like a complete frickin’ idiot, yet I managed to score in the "normal" range, only slightly below the population average. If most people are this braindead, then the world really is doomed.

    #44 | Comment by Banana — September 12, 2002 @ 11:43 am

  45. You don’t have to feel sorry for anybody, the US, the taliban – nor does anyone have to get over it on your timetable. What I don’t get is the sense of gleeful superiority demonstrated by those who want to provoke others by invalidating their expressions of the event. If you really want people to get over it – don’t pick-up the topic, just passby… or would that neglect the negative attention seeking intentions of the ploy?

    #45 | Comment by raceman — September 12, 2002 @ 12:04 pm

  46. I’m with Mencken (though not the real Mencken on all points) that the bulk of the remembrance is pseudo-patriotism. Further, I’ve noticed that the ‘anti’-patriots seem more articulate than the patriots. So, I think we ought to sort it out through the use of a slick IQ test located at the homepage attached to my name. I went there originally at the suggestion of ‘big ass ham’ (probably not his/her Christian name) and was profoundly impressed. So, let’s see if there is a correlation between IQ and Patriotism. (plastic flag waving off your family SUV – killed me).

    bofc

    #46 | Comment by big ol' floppy chicken — September 12, 2002 @ 12:09 pm

  47. well I’m MENSA qualified – and of course the people you agree with will tend to sound more articulate since they’re saying what you want to realize. Ain’t it cool to be subservise? See I’m unique cause I’m on the outside. So if it *shocks* the general populace it must be hip. Bout as punk as sk8ter boi.

    #47 | Comment by raceman — September 12, 2002 @ 12:16 pm

  48. So, raceman probably got somewhat higher than 1250 on his SAT. Honestly, the test ‘big ass ham’ suggested is really good. Also, I am genuinely interested in the correlation between IQ and Patriotism (and belief in God, for that matter). I don’t really want to shock anyone; I just want everyone to take the test and post their score.

    #48 | Comment by bofc — September 12, 2002 @ 12:27 pm

  49. I took the short test and got 141. And as a matter of fact I did get a lot more than 1250 on the SAT.

    #49 | Comment by raceman — September 12, 2002 @ 12:30 pm

  50. Wasn’t it a good test? The Ultimate IQ test is better, but they are all pretty decent. 141 is pretty good, and though it is statistically equivalent to a 1250 on the SAT (about 2.5 standard deviations above the mean) it is a little more impressive to me; I think the SAT is only marginally correlated to intelligence.

    #50 | Comment by bofc — September 12, 2002 @ 12:37 pm

  51. Sorry. I’m in error. The standard deviation for the SAT is actually about 140, so the SAT score that is equivalent to a 141 on the IQ test is 1350.

    #51 | Comment by bofc — September 12, 2002 @ 12:42 pm

  52. Apparently, my score was so high, it caused an error:

"There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed."

There’s five whole minutes of my life I’ll never get back…

    #52 | Comment by Banana — September 12, 2002 @ 12:46 pm

  53. Or was that part of the test? Oops.

    #53 | Comment by Banana — September 12, 2002 @ 12:47 pm

  54. That happened to me, as well. It timed out. If you go back and fill in the answers (you’ll probably remember them) it’ll furnish your score. By the way, I don’t work for them.

  64. To begin – I’m Australian, not American. It is horrible what happened that day Sept 11. Innocent people were killed regardless of race, religion, ideals, politics. To those who have posted above me, we’re not "feeling sorry" for the U.S. We’re not just going "to get over it". Thousands of people died in one swift act of terrorism the likes of which most of us have never seen and hopefully never will again. And we saw it LIVE on television, we saw it happen right there and then and the feeling of helplessness that everyone watching the events as they unfolded will not be soon forgotten. The heartless people who posted above who talked of patriotism and commercialism should feel ashamed. A love of ones country is beside the point, a love of life – regardless of of race, politics, religion, colour or ideals is what we must accept and welcome.

  65. if you actually think about it, how does that 5 minute test actually get an accurate IQ? it is only a test of your verbal skills. their conversion to the SAT was a little off though.. SAT verbal was a bitch ::shakes fist at SAT:: damn you. it was fun and killed 5 minutes of my boredom. if that is accurate though, i’ve lost some points over the years.. tsk.

  66. marko, god bless your jumbled hash of a post, whatever it was you were trying to convey. i’m sorry you had to watch such an awful thing on live tv. i’m sorry i had to watch it too.

funny, though, i could have sworn that i saw an american flag superimposed on that wreckage in a photograph somewhere on this site that started this whole string of comments. "never forget" was the caption, whatever that meant. "remember the alamo" perhaps? i don’t know.

what i do know is that even conservative estimates have it that in alleged pursuit of osama bin laden (who, dead or alive, still eludes US), my country’s military killed 3000-4000 innocent afghan civilians and we’re still going strong. of course i’m sure that’s beside whatever point you were trying to make.

  88. Dissection of a patriot post.
    Part one:
"Innocent people were killed regardless of race, religion, ideals, politics." It would of course be much, much better if those people were killed, because they were jews or someting ? Good point. NOT.
"Thousands of people died in one swift act of terrorism the likes of which most of us have never seen and hopefully never will again." Here’ notice how the most important part, was that i was an "act of terrorism". Why does it matter HOW those people were killed ? Dying of "terrorism" is the same as just dying.

"And we saw it LIVE on television, we saw it happen right there and then and the feeling of helplessness that everyone watching the events as they unfolded will not be soon forgotten". How heroic that you sat on your butt, and stared at the telly. I wish more people were as bbrave as you are.
"A love of ones country is beside the point, a love of life – regardless of of race, politics, religion, colour or ideals is what we must accept and welcome." This just doesn’t make sense. Let’s try again. "A love of ones country is beside the point, a love of life" Uhhhh… Uhhhh… Is US the life ? Then I must be dead.
"regardless of of race, politics, religion, colour or ideals is what we must accept and welcome." There’s no connection to that about "love of life". Or to anything else really. It’s just something you can’t say no to. You can’t disagree to it, that would make you a rascist/terrorist\whatever. On the other hand, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with 11 september. Or the rest of the post, but since you can’t argue with him, he must be right. Sad.

    Fucking fanatic.
