  10. Star Wars? or star wars?. Because one of those if forgivable.

And I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the Silmarillion.

  11. Seriously-

She might not like the ‘shoot down a missle in space system’ but I never thought to ask her about that.

And I am NOT referring to the shitty Episode I, Attack of the Clones, variety either.

I am referring to, I make a Yoda ‘Do or do not, there is no try.’ reference and she’s like ‘what? I never saw star wars, I hate it.’

    Unforgiveable.

  12. I HATED Star Wars, the Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Over-rated garbage.

BUT — I went to see Episode I in the theater (against my will).

    I loved that one.

Also, the only Star Trek movie I liked was the one with the whales.

And I have not see (nor will I see) the Lord of the Rings. It represents everything I hate in movies.

    #12 | Comment by Amy — November 10, 2003 @ 4:30 am

  13. Okay, that’s yet another reason to just disregard Amy’s opinion in the future. How is it possible to like Episode I without liking Empire Strikes Back? Or at least Jedi? I mean, Jedi’s got a bunch of Muppets, just like the CGI muppets that were in Episode I… I mean, let’s be honest: Maybe I could possibly have liked Episode I if they’d fragged Jar-Jar somewhere along the way.

But, Jesus, this is Empire Strikes Back we’re talking about. Unquestionably the best of the five Star Wars films. Don’t knock Empire. Like you wouldn’t swoon like Princess Leia did when Han said, "I’m a nice man." Okay, with Episode I, the only love story that’s going is between a little boy and a girl who’s like ten years older than him, and that’s just wrong and ranks about a 6.5 on the Michael Jackson Fucked-Up-O-Meter.

  14. I might have just been in a better mood the day I saw Episode I.

I don’t really take movies that seriously. People like what they like.

    #14 | Comment by Amy — November 10, 2003 @ 4:49 am

  15. And everybody fuckin’ likes the Star Trek movie with the whales, which -barring Nemesis- is THE worst of the even-numbered Trek movies. I mean, everyone knows that Wrath of Khan is the best of the series. And then Star Trek VI had this great ‘whodunit’ kind of plot that had the requisite whiz-bang ending. Star Trek IV (aka ‘the one with the whales’) has neither whiz nor does it have bang, and pretty much relies on the fish-out-of-water plotline of sticking the Enterprise crew in 1980’s San Francisco (or wherever the hell it was).

Star Trek IV is representative of one of the horrible things to come out of the 80’s, that being the socially-responsible motion picture. In this, it was ‘save the whales;’ and in Superman IV, it was ‘down with nuclear weapons;’ in Rocky IV, it was ‘we can be friends with the Soviets;’ and finally in Friday the 13th Part VI, it was ‘never dig up Jason Voorhees just to make sure he’s dead.’

See, this is why I never post on my own site. I keep putting the good stuff up everywhere else.

  20. Just for everyone’s information, John "Suck it Down!" Romero was the originator and the king of Deathmatch Taunting, and -while "suck it down" was his best-known quote, he had many more in him. Courtesy of Masters of Doom, here are a few of his quotes:

"Good night, monkey! You better fucking hop down! Fuck you, motherfucker! Suck it down!" and (my personal favorite) "Come on, monkey fuck!" because ‘monkey fuck’ is just a fun thing to call another person.

Because it wasn’t a trilogy, they just happened to have three movies.

  24. You contradict yourself in here.

"[LOTR] represents everything I hate in movies."

    and then later

"I don’t really take movies that seriously. People like what they like."

How can a movie that you have never seen represent everything you hate in movies? You wouldn’t know without seeing it.

  29. smash —

That’s not at all a contradiction. I don’t take movies that seriously, as in I don’t really care if someone didn’t like a movie I liked. I would also never aruge with someone about why they should or shouldn’t like it. But I DO know what I enjoy watching.

And I know that I don’t like fantasty type movies. Wizards, goblins… any of that stuff – not my cup of tea. Usually, the more elaborate the costuming/makeup, the less interest I have in seeing it.

The fact that I loved Episode I was most likely due to being in a really good mood that day. (I never did watch it again.) Sometimes that’s all it takes.

One more clear example of why I can’t see it Amy’s way. Ever.

This, boys, is why the Oxygen Channel was invented.

  31. PS:

Justin, on your earlier note, if a chick sounds like Amy (which unfortunately many do – and I truly do not intend this to be directed at Amy per se), stay away. If you don’t, you’ll condemn yourself to a lifetime of reading "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus", just to try to fucking make heads or tails of what the hell they’re saying.

My girlfriend loved Lord of the Rings, got advance tickets to Matrix, and doesn’t ever ask me, "What are you thinking?". That my friends, is bliss.

    🙂

  37. yes yes yes the pic on the link that "who knows" postd is a picture of a girl in a bathing suit ok? "who knows", stop whining about it. obviously people are more interested in talking about movies on this board than a link you posted of a chick in a bikini who isnt all that graet looking. my vote goes for star wars, by the way. the originals were faaaar better than episode one, sorry amy.

  38. movies arent mathematics………or movies isn’t?.
I’ll ponder on that, but I am no English major from Britain, so i’ll get it wrong regardless.

Anyway, I had a point, but FUBAR posts are so uninspiring recently, that i’ll settle for defending Amy, in saying, Episode 1 is the best revealing of Jedi cool and for that alone it deserves worship.

Not since the first ‘choke your ass without touching you’ scene from Vader, have they ever shown the true, unflustered cool that is the Jedi way, as acted by Neeson.

In fact Neeson, to me, is the true Jedi…Yoda can go to Sesame Street hell.

  41. I have not seen a star wars episode yet that i havce disliked. The story is original and special effects are stunning. How can you complain about movie that blows shit up? Any movie with explosions or boobies is all good! And if you can add in some matrix like effects, all the better.

  45. okay fucking hell i could’ve sworn i made a picture post sometime around this time last year where i put my newly bought deluxe spiderman dvd and my lotr extended edition boxset dvd side by side, and the lowly star wars ep. II dvd literally IN THE TRASH.

okay so i didnt really throw the dvd away but it made for a pretty dramatic statement. sort of.

  46. Wasn’t that your big ‘return to fubar’ post? The one that was only 7 words long or somesuch?

And I secretely think it would have been cooler if Vader had used the force to stop their heart, although that concept could not be immediately be communicated through pantomine in the way that choking could.

  47. That wasn’t me. =-O That is a picture of my coworker from a job we had together this summer. She kept mocking herself and complaining she was ugly, to the point that I finally posted the pic to see if I could prove her otherwise.
