DVD!!

Just got back from that Fox Home Video place. Picked up my copy of Deep Red on DVD which i’d ordered like… a month ago or something. Also picked up a copy of Pi. Darren Aronofsky’s first movie.

You know. That guy who made Requiem For A Dream.

Only like one of the best movies ever.

If not only for the fact that Jennifer Connelly’s in it.

Specaking of Jennifer Connelly, she actually once starred in one of Dario Argento’s movies. The guy who made Deep Red.

Much like how Takeshi Kitano is known for his silence and violence movies, Dario Argento is known for all his giallo movies. Suspense thriller/slasher movie. Just so happens that Deep Red is one of his better ones if not the best.

Two other movie that you might wanna check out are Tenebre and Suspiria. I probably would’ve gotten Opera (another one of his better movies… there are a coupla stinkers in there… the one which Jennifer Connelly being one…) but they didn’t have it in stock so i got Pi instead.

I was thinking of getting Blood Simple (old Coen Brothers movie) but it was a pretty bog standard disc. The same can be said about Deep Red but it’s an Argento movie. But that alone makes it worth buying.

If i’d known that there was a double feature DVD with Deep Red and Tenebre included in one package, i probably would’ve ordered that version instead. But i didn’t so i’m stuck with the bare bones edition of Deep Red.

Two trailers, talent bios and a 10 minute 25th Anniversary featurette. Bleh.

Well at least the movie’s presented in it’s uncut, uncensored, full length director’s cut.

Oh and i also picked up the DTS Collector’s Edition of Jurassic Park.

Aaaaannnd…

…the two disc set 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition of Pearl Harbor!

The only thing that really sucks about getting Pearl Harbor now is that i’m gonna have to buy it again… two more times… next year.

Because:

“Buena Vista is releasing not one but three versions of Pearl Harbor on DVD … well, two and a half, actually. The edition reviewed here is the two-disc 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition (of the attack itself, not the film) which is a two-disc set with a few worthwhile though not extensive extras. Buena Vista is also releasing a special collector’s pack that contains the Commemorative Edition along with the National Geographic special Beyond The Movie: Pearl Harbor bundled as a bonus disc. Due next spring is the real crown jewel, the Vista Series 3-disc set that includes a new director’s cut of the film, and tons more extras. Oooh, can’t wait!”

Buena Vista is evil.

Anyway, i guess it’s time to update that darn list again.

Blah. I’m too lazy. I’ll do it tomorrow. Nobody ever checks out that page anyway.

Out Cold/Brother

So much for getting up at 8am and staying online the whole day.

Woke up at 5pm.

Saw Out Cold last night. That movie has got to be the epitome of what ‘guilty pleasure’ stands for. It’s so bad! Not bad in an Ice Cream Man kind of way but (pardon the pun) bad in a good way.

It’s just a really really stupid movie. It’s like a Farelly Brothers movie but without any intelligence (if that’s even possible).

I gotta admit though, it did have me rolling with laughter several times throughout the movie. Especially that lesbian chat room scene.

Every horny web surfers worst nightmare.

I finally got around to watching Brother too. It’s this Japanese Yakuza flick that’s set in the US. It’s the latest in the series of the ‘silence and violence’ flicks that the director’s (Takeshi Kitano) known for. Personally i haven’t seen any of the older ones (e.g Hana-Bi) but based on what’s recognized to be the worst of the S&V flicks (Brother), the other ones might be worth checking out. Because Brother sure does live up to the S&V tag.

Lots of silence. Lots of violence.

S&V. Not S&M.

I mean come on now. Wouldn’t you call getting chopsticks stuck up your nose and rammed into your head violent?

The word ouch comes to mind.

Layout

You know, i actually changed the layout a bit last night. Basically just took off all the Angelina Jolie pics and switched them with Christy Chung ones.

For a grand total of about 5 minutes. Then i switched them back to Angelina Jolie.

I dunno. I did the same thing a coupla weeks ago. I actually went back to the old Claire Forlani layout only to change it back to Angelina Jolie again after 5 minutes or so.

The funny thing is… i don’t even really like Angelina Jolie that much. The only reason i’m using her images on the layout is because they’re just really good pictures of her.

I am kinda sick of seeing her face (so’s Will if you ask him…) everytime i load up the page and it’s probably time for a change but everytime i switch pictures and look at the new end result, the site just comes off feeling… wrong.

I dunno.

Anyway, i actually had another point to make in this post but i’ve long forgotten what it was.

Um…

I bought Out Cold on VCD today.

That was before i read this.

Out of 20 reviews… only 2 (two) of them were good.

Here’s an excerpt from one of the ‘good’ reviews.

“It sort of sucks, but you’ll still secretly have a pretty good time watching it.”

YES THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE GREAT.

Not again!

My phone rang just a few minutes ago. A weird number came up on the caller ID. A girl’s voice i’ve never heard before was on the other line.

Yes. It’s happened again.

Another phone call from a reader! Shocked the hell out of me. I get nervous when readers call me up. Because i know i sound like a complete ass on the phone.

Quite a few have done so this past week. Three so far.

Dammit i’m still shaking!

Yep. I probably sounded like an ass.

Another blog (very boring too)

The Honors Convocation thing was pretty short. Nothing like what i expected.

Then again i didn’t really expect much in the first place so yeah. No problem there.

Well i finally got to watch Harry Potter last night. It was alright i guess. I don’t exactly have a basis for comparison since i’ve never actually read the book or anything so i’m just gonna say it’s alright. Although if you ask Vicky about the movie, she’ll probably tell you about how much she hates Chris Columbus.

Was it just me or does that movie seem to drag on for like forever? Seriously. That movie felt longer than Titanic. And fucking hell. Some of the stuff in there is scary as hell. There was one point in the movie where i literally jumped out of my seat. Not because of some three headed dog. Not because of some troll. But because of a simple explosion.

It was a scary explosion!

Scary because it was loud. Fucking loud as hell. Look out for that scene where the kid’s trying to turn that goblet or water into rum. Fucking loud.

I dare you not to at least jerk out of your seat.

(Although i think i may have spoilt that scene for you now…)

Or maybe i’m just really callow.

ANYWAY.

It was an alright movie i guess. Although i really don’t see how the bad guy could get past the giant chessboard thing without having played it…

Lapse of logic there.

*potential spoiler alert*

And for a moment, towards the end, i was thinking, “How in the hell did Harry Potter end up with the stone??”. That could’ve been the biggest plot hole in movie history if it weren’t for the fact that they eventually explained how he got it. It really felt like a cop out ending. It’s like, “Oh no! We’ve run out of ideas! I know! We’ll just put the stone in his pocket and give a half assed explanation as to how it got there later towards the end!”

*spoiler end*

Ah well. It was good for a first try i guess. Very nice sets. That bitchy little girl i thought was great. That head wizard guy kept reminding me of Gandalf from The Lord Of The Rings.

It’s the beard that does it.

Maybe they’ll be able to do more with the sequels.

So. What other exciting things did i do today?

Nothing much really. I bought more DVD’s. That’s as exciting as it can get.

I lead a very boring life.

  • Ben Hur
  • The Deer Hunter
  • Air Force One: Superbit

I have to confess though. That time when i bought Spartacus… i actually thought i was buying Ben Hur. I’d gotten both movies mixed up you see. So there i was, watching Spartacus waiting for that famous chariot scene… and no chariot scene.

    D’oh.

But it wasn’t all that big a loss. Spartacus was a pretty good movie in itself. Good DVD too. The Ben Hur DVD isn’t as stacked but i’m just curious as to see how well Spartacus stands up to Ben Hur though. Storywise.

But with 11 Oscars, Ben Hur can’t go wrong.

And the same thing goes for The Deer Hunter too. There was a time where i’d get The Deer Hunter and Deliverance confused. Thinking that the anal raping in the woods scene was in The Deer Hunter instead of Deliverance. But now i know better. Ha!

    ANYWAY.

Thanks to everybody who were kind enough send e-mails, and e-cards and leave birthday comments yesterday. Much appreciated. One of the more surprising one’s that i’d gotten came in the form of an e-mail from my 8th ex. Which was totally unexpected in the least. Since i’m pretty sure she hates my guts. I didn’t think she’d even remember. Much less even bother to send me an e-mail to acknowledge it. We kinda broke up earlier this year around February. It was a long distance thing. Didn’t work out. It was kind of a bittersweet break up. I’m not exactly too proud of how it went down. And i really regret some of the things that happened between us. I probably won’t bother talking about it again here since it’s been done before anyway. Not that that’s ever stopped me from repeating things ad naseum on the site. But i’m just too darn lazy to dredge up old memories right now.

    ANYWAY.

How’s this for a bit of comedy:

I got this really nice e-mail yesterday from Sinnah. Otherwise known as Stal. She was also kind enough to include a fan sign.

So i thought, “Cool. Fan sign!” =D

And so i’m looking high and low for the said attached fan sign link thing. But no fan sign link to be found!

Either my e-mail server was acting up on me or she just forgot to attach it. Anyway, i check out her site and i’m looking around and stuff and noticed a pics page.

Having not seen her before (since the fan sign didn’t exactly get through), it got me thinking, “Hey, i wonder what she looks like…”.

And so i’m on her gallery links page, lots of choice, lots of colors to choose… and i thought, “What the hey… i’ll pick her ‘white gallery'”.

First words out of my mouth as the page loaded up:

    “omigod”

Trust me. You owe this girl a visit.

The ‘red 2 gallery’… my personal fave. =]

You don’t any any badder than that (in a good way of course).
