The bootlegs questions

Every once in a while, i get e-mails asking me about bootleg VCD’s/DVD’s and where you can get them.

I’m sure you have been asked this question a million times, but nevertheless am I going to ask you it anyway.

I was hoping you could enlighten me on where one can get a hold of bootleg DVDs in the five-dollar price range. Or any other reasonable price range for that matter. Sites on the net are extremely hard to find but I know they exist because of the huge demand worldwide. However, they change their urls all the time in order to be one step ahead of the law enforcement.

How about user/news groups? They must be an excellent way to attract customers. Can you recommend any?

I am particularly looking for Godfather The Collectors Box among many others.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

A DVD addict

Hey,
Nice site. Anyway, I was just wondering where you get your VCDs? I need to
get a few and can’t seem to find a place to get ’em. Any help is
appreciated.

thanks

And in all cases i always have the same answer:

It’s easy for me to get all the latest movies on VCD/DVD because i live in Asia. Also commonly known as bootleg central of the world. So i have absolutely no need for looking around the net for bootleg VCD’s or DVD’s.

When i can get em off the streets for less than US$1.50.

Less than US$4 for DVD’s.

But i always go for legit DVD’s. Bootlegs tend to not have all the extras and are almost always printed on DVD-5’s. You’d be lucky to find one’s that’re printed on DVD-9’s but even then, it’s no guarantee that it’ll have all the extras that you’d get with the legit version.

So if you were to ask me where you can get like really really cheap bootlegs that you can order off the net, i wouldn’t really have a clue. Because personally, i’ve never gotten any bootlegs off the net. Bought or downloaded.

Because, like i said, i just get mine from off the street. But lately, i’ve been getting them from this little corner store just outside of campus. It’s pretty cool. Totally illegal (in terms of what they sell in there). And it’s just, literally, wall to wall VCD’s, PS games, PC software and MP3 CD’s. Each for less than US$5.

You want the full bootleg copy of Windows XP for less than US$3? Sure. They have it. Monsters Inc. on VCD for less than US$2? I already have it.

So short of telling you to get on a plane to Malaysia to get yourselves these easily obtainable off the streets bootlegs, i can’t really help you guys out too much. But, if you’d like to maybe learn a little bit more about bootlegs in general, check out this page.

And look out for these posts:

  • DVD/VCD related e-mails – 11:20am@ March 1 2001
  • Half assed feature on bootleg VCD’s – 3:48am@ March 2 2001
  • VCD’s – 10:15pm@ March 3 2001

But other than that, there’s not really much i can do to help.

Sorry guys.

One too many

I think i may have just bought one too many VCD’s for my own good.

I look at the stack of the 15+ movies that i’d just bought this past week…

…and i break down and cry at the prospect of trying to find the time to watch them all.

There goes another one…

A lot of people read this site. People i know… people i don’t know… people that know me inside and out… people that don’t… etc etc

Well for those of them who do know me personally… or at least knows me well enough, would notice that i’m almost completely the opposite of how really i am as opposed to how i am on my site. I’m not as outspoken, i’m not as crude, i’m not as much of an asshole (or at least that’s what i’d like to think…) and i’m just… well… basically not what i’m like on this site.

I got an e-mail today from a very close special friend of mine who’s been reading the site for a while now. She doesn’t exactly stop by EVERYDAY but she’s been known to frequent the site every coupla days or so whenever she has free time on her hands. She’s a busy girl.

She’s one of those people that pretty much knows me inside and out. Pretty much.

So she e-mails me and says:

“Ok, well, after reading about how u want to SPANK Mandy Moore, I’ve decided that I’m no longer gonna read your site. I know I’ve said that a few times…. but, this is it. I…. just can’t anymore. I mean, I actually found myself questioning stuff after reading that. I know its silly. I know
that now anyway.

I donÃŒt want to get upset over something as silly as that…. u know?”

I think this is like the third time she’s said something like that. To that extent. Of not wanting to read the site anymore.

So i’m thinking now… if she finds that offensive… and starts questioning my motives and intents or whatever… how the hell would my parents feel if they read something like that?

Which is why i have this problem with them checking out my site. But that’s beside the point.

I admit though, that i can be quite crude and offensive at times, as was pointed out by bear-cave.com once:

“…I would say you probably don’t want to check this site out if a guy indulging in guy-things offends you. If you think the concept behind the Man Show is a crime against humanity — this is not your site.”

… and that the site is very:

“…male (and I cannot emphasize “male” strongly enough)…”

…which leads me to wondering why girls would actually even bother to read or to even like the site. Much less even want to link to it.

I’m guessing that they probably just see past all the ‘male-ness’ or probably just find it all amusing (in which if they ever did, i wouldn’t know why because personally i think most of the things i write on here about girls [e.g that Mandy Moore comment] are pretty degrading if not in the least, offensive…).

My 8th ex-girlfriend, she absolutely HATED this site and everything it stood for. She wanted me to close it down. We’d even get into arguments about it. She’d get pissed because all i ever talked about was Kirsten Dunst.

Hell hath no fury for a woman scorned by Kirsten Dunst.

A good online friend of mine in Canada (eh?) whom i’ve known for a coupla years now once told me that she didn’t like this site because it wasn’t ‘me’ and that i was mean on it. I don’t think she reads this site anymore. Heh.

I guess i what i’m trying to say is that, if you are a regular reader, you shouldn’t really take this site and the stuff that i may say on this site, all too seriously. And (forgive me for using this overused website cliche…) to not judge me based on my website.

Because i am not my website. I’m almost completely the opposite of how i may seem like on my site.

Not to say that i’m completely boring, quiet and reclusive in real life… but…

Wait, come to think of it, i AM completely boring, quiet and reclusive in real life…

…but let’s just pretend i didn’t say that. Instead, just think of me as less exciting, less loud and less outspoken in real life. Not at all as i may make it out to seem on here.

Anyway, this has been a Public Service Announcement to inform you all that i am not my website. And that i’m not schizo. Really.

I’m not.

I ASSURE YOU I’M NOT.

Movies and stuff!

Bought more VCD’s.

  • Monsters Inc.
  • America’s Sweethearts
  • Brother

Hmm. High Fidelity… Serendipity… and now America’s Sweethearts.

You’d think i have a hard-on for John Cusack if you didn’t know any better.

Ooh. I also bought… books! *shock*

  • Trigger Happy
  • Chasing Dogma

Yes. I actually do read books on occasion.

Trigger Happy’s a book about videogames. It’s history and whatnot. Should be a really good book. Lots of nice reputable reviews on the back cover and shit.

Chasing Dogma… well… i’m sure you all know what Chasing Dogma’s about. It’s a comic book. It also comes in a limited edition hard cover… edition… but that version costs over RM$120+. I’d have to be out of my mind to spend that much on a BOOK (when i could as well be buying a DVD). The copy i bought already cost me RM$54 as it is. You’d have to fuck me and suck me if you want me to spend over a hundred bucks for what’s essentially just a COMIC BOOK.

Seriously. It’s bad enough they price DVD’s ludricrously high over here… they also have to put ridiculous price tags on COMIC BOOKS.

And don’t even get me started on the price of action figures over here. That Ash doll, from Army Of Darkness… only costs about 20 bucks in Singapore. Over here, it’s around RM$80+/-.

And Doritos! A bag of Doritos for NINE DOLLARS. NINE DOLLARS FOR A BAG OF DORITOS.

Okay, enough about price woes. I’ve done this schtick one too many times already.

    Anyway.

I also picked up some Macintosh software!

  • Final Cut Pro

Not exactly my first choice but it was the only choice i had. I’d rather have gotten Final Cut Pro 2… if they’d had it… but they didn’t.

So i’m stuck with the shitty old ugly looking version of Final Cut Pro for now. Only cost me 25 bucks. Which isn’t too bad i guess. It’s a bootleg.

I went to the Apple Center to check out how much a legit copy of Final Cut Pro 2 would cost.

    RM$3399.

    Well FUCK that.

    Anyway.

OOH. I knew i was forgetting something. I also bought three new Dreamcast games!

  • Bomberman Online
  • Headhunter
  • 90 Minutes

FUCKING BOMBERMAN MAN!!! I remember back the old days of the SNES where me and my friends would play four player Bomberman 2 till our eyes bled and fingers fell off. Good God was that game ever intense.

    BOMBERMAN 2 WAS THE BOMB.

    (no pun intended)

Bomberman 1 was alright. Kinda plain. But still good. Bomberman 2, like i said, was THE BOMB.

Bomberman 3… sucked major ass. What the fuck was up with those stupid kangaroo things? Fucking kangaroos. I hate those kangaroos. They messed up the whole Bomberman legacy man.

    Fucking kangaroos.

I can’t remember if there ever was a Bomberman 4.

It probably had those fucking kangaroos in it too.

Headhunter. I remember reading about that game a coupla months ago. It looked pretty cool. In the previews anyway. I have yet to test it out. Hope it doesn’t blow.

90 Minutes. It’s a soccer game. It’s probably gonna suck. I have never seen or played ANY good soccer games on the Dreamcast. I don’t know why i got it.

Actually wait i do. They were having this buy 2 get 1 free offer thing. So i bought Bomberman Online and Headhunter… and chose 90 Minutes as my free game. The was nothing else better to get so hey, why not just give 90 Minutes a shot. Maybe it won’t suck as much as all the other Dreamcast soccer games i’ve played.

I bought a lot of stuff today.

  • T-shirt money

I’m actually quite impressed at how great this T-Shirt Hell affiliate program works.

I mean, for one, it actually DOES work.

I’ve earned a total of 42 bucks ever since i started ‘selling’ them on my site. US$42 in less than a month! I can buy TWO (cheap) DVD’s with that money! Wow!

At 5 bucks earned per shirt, that’s… *thinks REALLY hard* … 8 shirts sold!

    I’m crap at mental arithmetic.

Ooh and plus 2 dollars in commission!

(They have this weird commission system that i have no idea how it works but hey, if it means more money for me, i’m all for it.)

Go sign up. You might even be as ‘successful’ as i am.

And buy a shirt while you’re at it. Make me even richer. Haha.

I ASSURE YOU THEY’RE GOOD QUALITY SHIRTS.

    Hurdy Gurdy Man

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I opened my eyes to take a peep
To find that I was by the sea
    Gazing with tranquility

I was going through my entire list of trailers that i have on my POWERBOOK G4 last night and decided to watch the L.I.E trailer again.

It really looks like a hell of a movie. I think it’ll be a hit with the girls. Cute guys doing bad things… every girls dream.

Okay maybe not. I wouldn’t know what girls dream of. I’m not a girl.

And it’s supposedly a pretty deep and disturbing movie. So they might not like it.

But hey, what do i know about what girls would like?

Anyway, it’s the song that they used in the trailer that really got to me. It’s such a great song.

‘Twas then when the hurdy gurdy man
    Came singing songs of love
Then when the hurdy gurdy man
    Came singing songs of love

Excuse the funky lyrics but it really does sound good.

Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang

Okay the lyrics do look rather silly but i assure you it’s a great song!

    Histories of ages past
    Unenlightened shadows cast
    Down through all eternity
    The crying of humanity

Ah. See? Deep and meaningful lyrics.

‘Tis then when the hurdy gurdy man
    Comes singing songs of love
Then when the hurdy gurdy man
    Comes singing songs of love

Okay it starts to get silly again.

Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy hurdy gurd
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang

    The sillyness does end.

    Here comes the roly-poly man
    He’s singing songs of love

    It does. Really.

Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly poly he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy gurdy he sang
Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly poly he sang

    I ASSURE YOU IT’S A GREAT SONG.

It’s by Donovan Leitch. Go download it. Or listen to part of it on the trailer.

The movie’s website is here. It’s wants to be rated A.

Not PG-13, not R, not NC-17 and not even X. But A. They’re trying to get the MPAA to start this new A rating. it’s supposed to be somewhere inbetween R and X/NC-17 or something.

    I like the rating already!

I hope they make more movies with that rating. If it ever gets off the ground that is.

I watched The Princess Diaries last night.

I know i know. What the hell am i doing watching a movie like that right? Well i just had to see what the fuss was all about. Everybody’s been raving about that movie as if it were Titanic or something.

Okay maybe not but you get the idea.

It’s actually not that bad of a movie. It’s a Disney movie for sure, and normally i REALLY hate watching live action Disney movies but hey, this one wasn’t so bad. It helped that Anne Hathaway was pretty cute… and that MANDY MOORE (!) was in the movie. Being ULTRA bitchy at that (Made me feel like teaching her a lesson… for being so bitchy… if you get my drift. Grrr. MANDY MOORE. You bitchy girl you! *spank!* PHWOAR!!!).

Anne Hathaway looks pretty hot in some scenes. Although i do have this certain image of her from having seen the movie poster one time too many:

    A walking smile with breasts.

Seriously, that smile is like… scary. I dunno. Maybe it’s just me.

It’s kinda like Julia Roberts’ in a way. Which is ironic considering that she starred in Pretty Woman. Which was directed by Gary Marshall. Who directed The Princess Diaries.

    REGARDLESS.

Anne Hathaway needs to do an issue of Maxim someday. Or maybe even FHM. Or just star in a teen movie where she gets to wear a bikini or something.

That bathing suit she wore in the movie wasn’t revealing enough.

    I am such a pervert.
